At. St. Marys, two stalwarts of last year, Exeter's John Ker - nick and Jeff Shipley from Lucan are back. They are joined this season by Ilderton's Wayne Urbshott who was with the Lucan Irish last year. At Strathroy the coach is Dave Revington and he has goalie Dave hook from Iluron Park and forward Lester Arts from Lucan back for another season. Also expected to make the Blades roster is Brent Bannerman, also from the Lucan Irish. Revington told us a few days ago that Rook would share goal tending duties equally with another netlninder. The Huron Park youngster was with the Exeter Ilawks for the 1983-84 -season. - At St. Marys this year, two men that were instrumental in get- ting the Lucan-Ilderton Jets going some 15 years ago are back together again. Host Flesherton, Thursday Jack Nairn a playing coach with the Jets for many years will be behind the Lincolns bench and Steve Storey is the new manager. Nairn had a lot of success coaching junior 'B' clubs in Strat- Sports Spotlight by Ross Haugh ford. It's good to see him come out of a short retirement to coach the St. Marys club. The third and very important cog in the L -I Jets was Don "The Silver Fox'Urbshott. His son Wayne is now with the Lincolns. For John Kernick it will be his fourth and final year with the Lincolns. The success of the St. Marys team this year will depend on veterans like Kernick. The 20 -year old Kernick proved his worth to the Lincolns in the playoffs last spring as he scored 20 goals and added 20 assists for 40 points in 21 playoff games. Kernick's outstanding contributions in the playoffs helped him win most valuable player honours with the Lincolns last spring. He was also named rookie of the year in his first season. The goal of Kernick and the other Lincolns is to win an all -Ontario championship and with Nairn at the helm they have a good chance. Nairn is well known for his ability to have his teams in gear 14 for the playoffs. He gets his boys in shape and by playoff time they will skate with any team. its .:. ...: . :: :. .:+ ...' ... .. ... .k. .':-'':'.k. :3.'..yy ...:: :-y ::i. x..t.::;:i:<.:{.,`,P`i.`.'"t: 'i' o`y:>: ':i.`:':;: r%::>}k;- :....:.::.;:i.c.>:.:.::.:..:::: <:?:. a.."r..c:k.v`fi1'u,:,af:;<,.::?0?.r?'c.,a....:"'.'3>:..,,@..:::°e .':.+$.x.iz ..z . >:4:. ir;.:.::;iic.. ahr,.. i:..<: k _ .,.re.-::....:..,:E`'i:)w.,.....;.a:xr,',tN...s.:..,.a:x.::;:3:r.:....:.:-...:.,.,.:s.'*:T;;,...sC:a::.2.:»?>x;:.ycs:,u•.a%ixs<s:3'am< Pee wees reach WOAA final maert and Mike Kingma singled and raced home on a double for the bat of Harlen 'Pinney. The first game was played last night Tuesday in Flesherton with the second and third'ames if necessary in Exeter Thursday night at 6 p.m. If the series is tied after Thursday's first game, a second will be played to determine a winner. Harlen Tinney was the winning -pit- cher in the victory over Goderich. After giving up single runs in the first two innings, he retired the side in order in the next three innings and faced only five batters in the final two innings to send his team home a winner. The Exeter scoring began in the se- cond inning with a single run as Scott Russell was safe on a fielder's choice and was able to come around to score. A single by Brett Borden and con- secutive sacrifices by David Schwindt and David Dalrymple produced the tying run in the second for the locals. The first two go-ahead runs came in the fourth inning as Alan Blom - Scott Bishop and Harlen Tinney scored for Exeter in the sixth coming home on the strength of a double from the bat of David Schwindt. The final three Exeter runs were produced in the top of the final inning. The big hits were a Mark Russell single and a Harlen Tinney triple.
