and Hugh and Annie Morenz,.return-
ed last Monday from a pleasant few
days holiday in Mio Michigan, with
our Maier and Boerner cousins and
families. The Boerner's took us all up
to Mackinac Island on Sunday
September 15,
At Mackinaw city we visited The
Sawmill on Old Mill Creek where we
viewed a log sawing demonstration
with 100 percent water power. The
.mill was originally constructed about
1780, reconstructed several years ago,
the area is now a 625 acre historic
state park with craft demonstrations,
guided tours, museum and nature
trails and much more.
We crossed over to Mackinac
Island on a Hydroplane teat that
makes the trip in 18 minutes. There
are no cars allowed on the island. only
horse drawn wagons and buggies and
bicycles. We all took the two hour ride
by two and three horse hitch teams
around the island.
Some of the highlights were to see
the Governor of Michigan's lovely
white home high on a hill, the arch
rock that rises 149 feet above the lake
level and is one of the most
photographed spots on the Island. The.
majestic Grand Hotel on the island is
the world's largest summer hotel, and
a showplace of the Great Lakes.
It was a beautiful day for our boat
•trip, and horse and buggy ride, and
we all enioyed it so much.
