IRVIN RADER Senior Citizens met Monday, September 16 with 35 members and five visitors present. A sing -song was held. The card secretary' reported four get well and one sympathy card sent. The fall rally will be held at Var- na Community Centre. The Stan -Lee club will be in charge of euchre, bridge and shuffleboard following a short business meeting. Mrs. Eben Weigand's group is in charge of the next meeting October 21. The program followed with Mrs. Pearl's Miller's group in charge. Bingo was played followed by lunch. Tug-of-war win The area men's tug-of-war team, the Fourteenth Sodbusters and the ladies team, the Determination, com- peted at Friedsburg, Mitchell Fall Fair and Friday at Forest Fair and so far remain undefeated. They plan on competing at Alvinston Fall Fair. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schatz accom- panied by Mrs. Paul Klassen, Garden City, Michigan, were overnight visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Schatz and visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Miller. The funeral for Orvan Wassmann was held Tuesday, September 17 at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. M. Mellecke officiating. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. ACW meet at Saintsbury By.MRS. HEBER DAVIS Mrs. Nadine Bedell entertained the A.C.W. Ladies Tuesday evening. There were 12 ladies present. Presi- dent Marguerite Greenlee led in prayer and opened the meeting with the members prayer. The roll call was answered with a vegetable from the garden and Rose Cunningham conducted a contest on vegetables. It was very amusing and Sheryl Carroll came up with most cor- rect answers and will be responsible for the next contest. Mary Jefferies read the minutes of the June meeting and expressed thanks from all, to Carol Greenlee and Hazel Davis for the pool parties for the Sunday School pupils and mothers. Mary Davis read the treasurers report. Marguerite Greenlee read the Scripture and Hazel Davis the Meditation from the Living Message. Nadine, assisted by her sons Paul and Tyler served a delicious lunch. Plans were made to clean the church and prepare the hall for the luncheon, Saturday. Thanksgivingservice at St. Patrick's next Sunday is planned for 11 a.m. with Rev. Peter Derrick in charge. The ladies of the congregation are planning to feed the Historical Socie- ty of this area in the Parish Hall Saturday, September 28 at 12 noon. Word was received from Mrs. Car- rie McGavin's family that she is con- fined to the hospital in Seaforth since September 2. We wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. abed Mrs. Bob MacGillivray and Courtney and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Davis and Crystal held a surprise din- ner for their parents Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Davis on the occasion of their wedding anniversary. Hugh's mother, Mrs. Mary Davis was guest also. We are sorry to report that Fred Dobbs, Exeter a former resident of this community isa patient in St. Joseph's Hospital London. Good health Fred. Mrs. Clarence Davis is spending a few days with her daughter and fami- ly, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Love, Varna. Mrs. Love recently had surgery in Clinton Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Mellecke and Melissa, Goderich, were Sunday guests with Pastor and Mrs. M. Mellecke and an exchange student. Flowers in Zion Lutheran Church Sunday were from the funeral of the late Orval Wassmann. A number of relatives attended the funeral of Murray Wolfe, 65, at Oakville, and later at Dashwood, Monday. A YOUTH OPENS FAIR- The 1985 Exeter Fall Fair was officially opened Friday night by Elaine Pym who was honoured recently with an Inter- national Year of Youth medal.
