London entertained for supper Satur-
day evening in honor of their parents
Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Riehl's 25th wed-
ding anniversary.
Guests present were Mr. and Mrs.

and Mrs. Art Healey, Elliott Lake;
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Allison; Mr. and
Mrs. William Alcock, Goderich; Mr.
and Mrs. William Taman, Bayfield;
Mr. and Mrs. Rod Morrison, Lucan;
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Glavin, Crediton;
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Astle. Goderich;
Mr. and Mrs. Les Bott, Exeter; Mr.

Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Ben Riley,
Goderich; Mrs. Linda Riley, Wendi
and Benji, Centralia; Mrs. Clara
Riley, Londesboro, and Christine and
Grant Goodfellow, Georgetown were
guests with the Riehls. Their anniver-
sary is September 24. Happy anniver-
sary Gerry and Elda.
Sunday afternoon Ray Cann, Ken
Duncan, Bill Rohde played their
violins, Bob Jeffery played the ban-
jo and Harry Jeffery on the guitar
and accompanied on the piano by
Mrs. Reg Hodgert at the Fiddler's
Jamboree at Kirkton Community
Centre.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jeffery at-
tended the 45th wedding anniversary
celebrations for Mr. and Mrs. Mar-
wood Prest, Friday evening at the
Rec Centre in Exeter.
Get well wishes are extended to
Mrs. Archie Etherington who under-
went surgery recently. She is con-
velescing at her home.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rohde played the
violin and piano Tuesday afternoon at
the Friendship Club in St. Marys.
United Church Women
About 40 ladies attended the
smorgasbord pot luck supper Monday
evening in the church basement.
After the dishes were finished Mrs.
Rick Parker welcomed everyone and
gave the theme for the meeting
"Friendship".
Mrs. Parker gave a reading "Make
Me A Better Friend." Doris Elford
read the scripture John 15: 12-17
followed with prayer by Doris and a
poem. Mrs. Barry E. Miller and Doris
recieved the offering with prayer by
Mrs. Parker.
Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Parker put on
a dialogue entitled "Last Night I
Dreamed About Five Screaming
Women".
Mrs. Parker introduced Judy
Cieslar and Sgt. Gerry Hilgendorf
from Goderich who are connected
with the Friendship House - a refuge
for battered women and children in
Goderich. They gave quite a detailed
report.
Each member of the UCW gave a
donation of groceries, used clothing,
toiletries, etc. and the offering which
•
amounted to $71. to the above
mentioned.
Mrs. Lee Webber, president, con-
ducted the business. She read Ten
Commandments For Good Human
Relations. The usual business was
dealt with and the visiting committee
for September, October, November
and December are Group U. Miss
Doris Elford, Group C, Mrs. Rick
Parker, and Group W. Mrs. Barry
Jeffery.
Then were letters of invitations
read from Queensway in Hensall and
to Centralia on October 3. The In-
stitute Rally is to be held in Thames
Road Church on Monday, October 7.
The South Huron Regional Meeting
is to be held on Thursday, September
26 at Dashwood at 7 p.m. The book
review at 6:30 p.m. Thames Road
ladies are to receive the offering.,
Mrs. Reg Hodgert gave a very
lengthlv treasurer's report.
Church Service
Rev. Robert Matheson was in
charge of the regular church at which
there was a fair crowd. He told the
children a story entitled "All Good
Gifts". Then the children retired to
the basement for Sunday School.
Rev. Matheson read the scripture
from Proverbs 2:1-8, James 1:17-27,
Mark 7:31-37. The sermon was entitl-
ed "Pioneers in our own Time."
In Proverbs is a call to be close to
God. and the theme "All good gifts
around us" from "Godspell". Who is
a theologian? do we want to hear
God? - ghetto blasters, etc.
In Mark Jesus has moved from
Galilee in order to take his message
to the Gentiles. Geography gives us
editorial comment on who is willing
to listen. Jesus' style is a demonstra-
tion of practical Christianity.

p.m.

Two birthdays
at Centralia

The sympathy of the community is
extended to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rim-
mer and family in the death of Pat's
father the late Harold (Pat) Willert,
Hensall.
A number of family and neighbours
gathered at the home of Mr. Harold
Tripp recently to celebrate Harold
and Earl Dixon's birthdays.
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Snelgrove were
guests at the Fowler-Montanaro wed-
ding in London, Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Kooy and
Clyde, and Bonnie and Ben Bakker,
Granton were guests at the Feenstra-
Paff wedding and reception in
Strathroy, Saturday. Sharon Paff is a
niece of Mrs. Kooy.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carroll were
Saturday evening visitors with Tom
and Mary Kooy and Mr. and Mrs.
Charlie Fisher, Exeter were Sunday
evening visitors.

developments in the labour
