Exeter 111 triumphs in squirt
In squirt action this week play off
play renewed Saturday with the an-
nual tournament in Nairn. Exeter I
and 1I both played in the B group and
Exeter III played A.
Exeter I continued their improved
play of late by defeating Bryanston on
two goals by Jeremy Treumner. The
win by the young Exeter squad put
them in the B final. There was some
hope that Exeter 11 would be their op-
ponent but Lucan 1 proved to be too
strong and sent them home with a
loss.
This set the B final between Exeter
I and Lucan 1. The Exeter kids gave
it all they had but they came up just
short as Lucan I defeated them by a
2-0 score. Congratulations to coach Al
Beatty and the Bayfield boatyard
gang on a very successful season.
Exeter III in the A group started
their quest for the A championship
with a 2-0 victory over Ilderton on a
two goal effort by Marty DeBruyn. In
their second game of the day they
came up against a strong Denfield
team. The Exeter kids however
played their little hearts out and
defeated Denfield 5-0 for a spot in the
A final. Goal scorers for Exeter III
were Marty DeBruyn two, and Julia
Brand three.
The other finalist for the A final was
Nairn I previously undefeated in
league and playoff play. Today
however they found their match as a
determined Exeter III fought every
inch of the way to a 2-0 win and the
A championship.
Marty DeBruyn scored the first
goal midway through the second half
and then put the game on ice with his
successful goal of the game with
about two minutes left. Jeff MeLean
and Chad Webber had an excellent
tournament for Exeter III. A real
team effort and congratulations to
coaches Andrew Winters and Tim
Rowcliffe.
In Atom play this week the deciding
games for the A and B group were
played with the finals set for next
week in Arva.
It was a very exciting week for Ex-
eter atoms with all three teams win-
ning their game and qualifying for A
group competition.
Exeter I led by Tom Gullage with
a hat trick put together a real team
effort and defeated Grand Bend II by
a 6-1 score. Other scorers for Exeter
I were Derek Beckett with two and
Steve Farquhar one.
Exeter II with Mark Brintnell in a
starring role, defeated Arva 2-0. Scor-
ing for Exeter III were Joel Smith and
Shawn McCann.
Exeter III led by Jim Martens' hat
trick had no trouble defeating Nairn
I by a 7-0 count. Also scoring for Ex-
eter III were Sivichay Sengkhoun-
many two and Jamie Dougall and
Mark "Beef" Foster one each.
Good luck to the three Exeter
squads in their tournament.
The Exeter mosquito's had a very
busy week this week. Tuesday night
Exeter II1 lost a deciding game for
the league championship to Grand
Bend by a 7-4 score.
Lady luck was not on Exeter's side
in this game. The Exeter loss set up
the A and B playoff deciding games
with Grand Bend receiving the bye
and all three Exeter teams playing a
deciding game.
As was the case in the Atom divi-
sion all three Exeter teams won their
game and advanced to the A group of
the playoff tournament.
Exeter 1 played against Lucan II
and built up an early lead and they
never looked back` Lucan managed a
goal late in the game but the final
score 4-1 was never in doubt. Scoring
for Exeter I were Shawn McFalls two,
Geoff Sanders and E3ecci Farquhar
one each.
• Exeter 11 was led by J.Y. Maurer's
hat trick and a superb team effort as
they defeated higher placed Lucan I
by a 6-1 score. Also scoring for Exeter
II were Brett Lammie• Chris Gardner
and Darryl Chappel.
Exeter III started slowly in their
game against Ilderton. At half time
the game was tied at 1-1. The second
half however saw a different Exeter
team. With Peter McAllister moving
the hall up the wing lots of oppor-
tunities were created and a 5-1 final
score was the result. Sisavay
Sengkhounmany three, and Peter
McAllister and Eric Reimer one each
were the scores.
This past Saturday the Mosquito
play off tournament was held with
Exeter represented by three teams in .
the A group. Exeter 1 drew a bye int()
the semi-finals. Exeter I1 mel Grand
Bend in their first game. Until about
a minute beforg half time Exeter Ti
managed to stay with Grand Bend but
a penalty shot awarded to Grand
Bend put the game away and record-
ed a 6-0 win sending the Exeter kids
home early Exeter III on a lone goal
by Sharon 1)el3ruyn shut out Nairn 1-0
for a bye into the A final.
Exeter I and Grand Bend played in
the A semifinal 10 decide Exeter 111
opponent. Grand Bend started early
building up a 4-1 halftime lead.
The Exeter I squad, led by coach
Lorne Hideout, would not give up
however, and staged a bit of a come
back in the second half but it was too
late. Filial score 5-2. Scoring both
goals for Exeter I was Shawn
McFalls.

Exeter's only hope rested with Ex-
eter III in the A final against Grand
Bend. This was not Exeter's year
however but parents and coaches
alike were treated to one of the best
mosquito games ever seen. Every
game between these two well match-
ed teams seems to bring out
something extra in the players and
always on a fair and competitive
level.
Grand Bend scored a goal late in
the first half and then hung on in the
second half for a close 1-0 victory.
In the B portion of the mosquito
tournament some irregularity was
found with one of the teams and the
B championship will be decided at a
later date.
In pee wee action this week the
deciding games for the A or B group
were played with Exeter I travelling
to Nairn for a game against the se-
cond place team. Exeter I put forth
a good effort but came up short as
Nairn defeated them 4-2 for a place in
the B group at this weeks tournament.
Previously unbeaten Exeter II will
represent Exeter in the A group as
they defeated Grand Bend 5-0 with
Tim McAllister recording the shut
out.
Scoring for Exeter 11 were Henri
DeBruyn two and Jamie Wulterkens,
Jason McFalls and Justin O'Rourke
one apiece.
All in all a very successful playoff
season for Exeter with eight of the 11
teams qualifying for the A group.
With only one week left in the soc-
cer season we ask all the parents to
put September 29 at 2 p.m. on their
calendar for a pot luck supper and fun
afternoon.
