Hawks practicing for ambitious Junior 'D' schedule
Don't look now, but, the 1985-86 season for the Exeter junior -
Hawks is already underway.
The'Hawks held their first workout of the year Tuesday night
and continue with practices Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m., next
Tuesday from 9 to 11 p.m. and Sunday afternoon, September 15
from 4 to 6 p.m. All these workouts are at the Huron Park arena.
Ice at the South Huron Rec Centre is not available until after the
annual Exeter Fall Fair which goes the weekend of September
20, 21 and 22.
The new coach of the Hawks will be Grand Bend native Peter
Gill. Ile has played extensively in junior and intermediate ranks
in the area.
The manager, will be Cam Stewardson, facility manager at the
South Huron Kee Centre and George Pratt will be the trainer.
The big news for the Hawks in the upcoming season is a switch
from the north division to the south in the Western Junior "D"
grouping.
The move of the Hawks and the Lucan Irish to the southern
division was prompted by the inclusion of three new, teams, all of
whom are north of Exeter. The Clinton Mustangs after a number
of years in OHA Junior`*C" are moving back to the "D" category.
and are being joined by new entries from Brussels and Howick.
Othern northern group teams are from Seaforth, Mitchell and
Tavistock. Bothwell has dropped out of the south group making
a six team division of -Exeter, Lucan,"Thedford, Thamesord, Bel-
mont and Mt., Brydges. ' •

Hawks president Ken Dobney tells us the 1985-86 schedule will
be a very ambitious one with 42 league games as compared to 34
in previous years.
The Hawkshave lined up four exhibition games to precede the
regular schedule. They will meet the Lucan Irish in Lucan on
Sports Spotlight
by Ross Haugh
September 18 and in Hensall at 8:15 p.m. on September 26. Games
with the Thedford Browns will go September 22 in Thedford and
September 29 at 2 p.m. at the Stephen township arena.
The Hawks will host their annual Junior 'D' tournament on
the weekend of January 4 and 5.of 1986 and the western group all
• star game will go in Lucan the following Saturday.
The Grand Valley Harvesters will join the top four teams in
the north division in round robin playoff leading to the OHA cham-
pionship while the best four in the south battling in playoffs with
the winner_goingagainst the Southern Counties champ.
The Harvesters will be playing ,in a 'C' ,league during the
regular'scheduie, but drop back to 'p' for playoffs.

betiind Nihilator as the son of Niatross set a mile world record of
1.49.3. Falcon Seelster's earnings are now in excess of $525.000.
While handing out congratulations we should mention three
canoeists and a target shooter.
