Shirley' Hartung, a Kitchener home
ec teacher, was at Miller's Barn on
Saturday to autograph copies of her
hook Cookies Naturally. The attrac-
tive, well-designed book, which went
into its third printing in August, con-
tains dozens of tempting recipes with
one common denominator - none con-
tains white sugar, white flour or salt.
Many eliminate eggs or milk, and
others are designed for diabetics.
Shirley began devising the cookie
recipes when she discovered her son
was allergic to milk and eggs. In the
book's foreword, she thanks her fami-
ly for patiently' accepting nothing but
cookies for dessert for months while
she perfected the recipes. •
The cook book is divided into three
categories, Cookies Casually , ('ookie
Specialties, and ('ookie Cut -ups. The
first section contains many familiar

MIXING FOR FAIR - Cathy Seip, an Exeter Fair ladies director wat-

Family Favourites baking contest. Mrs. Kraftcheck was a winner at

A new, cash grand prize draw,
among other enticements, may have
local homemakers heating up their
ovens in preparation for the Fry's
Cocoa family favourites baking con-
test, at the Exeter Fall Fair on the
weekend of September 20, 21 and 2.2.
Fry's Cocoa is working with local
fair organizers to expand and revise
the original contest.
"We hope the additon of a grand
prize contest in which five $100.00
cash prizes will be drawn, will add
'spice' to the Family Favourites con-
test," says Suzanne Filiatrault, pro-
duct manager. for Fry's Cocoa.
"Everybody's favourite flavour is
chocolate. We're simply encouraging
people to enter recipes they've pro-
bably been baking for years."
The cash grand prize is not the on-
ly new addition. Fry's Cocoa has had
Certificates of Achievement especial-
ly designed for local contest winners.
"We felt a cash prize of $10 or $6 or
$4 was not enough recognition.for a
winner's efforts," says Filiatrault.
"We wanted the winners to have
something to keep as a reminder of
their success."
Fry's Cocoa also plans some kind
of a publicity feature which will give
grand prize winners the opportunity
of publishing their family's favourite
recipes.
If you think you have an unbeatably
delicious recipe suitable for the Fry's
Cocoa Family Favourites 43aking
Contest, then contact Ilelen Hodgen
at 235-2857 or Cathy Seip at 235-2828.
