Lawson Jr. (left) chats informally after Wednesday's meeting with
Ron Quick, (Canadian Coast Guard) and Lambton MP Sid Fraleigh
(right). Fraleigh had been especially invited to attend the meeting
to hear some of the proposals being put forth by the Harbour Com-
mittee to progress with Phase I of the Spriet report.

Fraleigh visits harbour meeting
'The Farmer' may get guard status
At the invitation of the Grand Bend
Harbour Committee, Larnbton M.P.
Sid Fraleigh took time out from his
busy schedule to attend Wednesday
night s meeting.
The issues set before him concern-
ed a harbour basin (Feral jurisdic-
tion) improvement and the proposed
auxiliary Coast Guard. Fraleigh, a
long time property owner in the Port
Franks area, demonstrated • a
knowledge and understanding of the
economics involved in harbour im-
provements - the need for a lift well
- to the fishing industry.
Rev. Quick, regional co-ordinator
for Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary
groups also attended the meeing. He
was in Grand Bend to inspect and ac-
cept the application by G.B. boater
Merchants are happy
with parking limitation
A somewhat lighter than usual
"workload allowed for a little levifty'at
Grand Bend council Monday. August
19.
The new two-hour parking limit on
Main Streettlas resulted in a handful
of letters of protest, explanation or
outright indignation. Along with the
$10 fine payment, letters asking to be
excused from the fine were received.
Council did consider each excuse
but found only one legitimate case for
rescinding the fine - that of the
Parachute Jump truck when picking
up equipment after a jump on Canada
Day.
Reeve Bob Sharen reports that
quite a few businesses are now repor-
ting that the two hour parking limit
on Main Street is working well.
Also on the subject of parking pro-
blems, Frank Martin, appeared
before council to explain and justify
levying a charge to those who park-
ed on his property. It was noted that
charging for parking is illegal
(residential property being used com-
mercially) : that only the owner's
vehicles may be parked on private
property; and that others who park op
private property are tresspassing and
subject to being towed away at the
car owner's cost. Martin was advis-
ed to so sign his property, stating by-

Martin explained he had no wish
to turn visitors to Grand Bend away
by creating unpleasant situations of
towing cars away; however on busy
weekends his property was often lit-
tered with garbage so he charged a
fee to defray the cost of paying for
clean-up.
Once again it was entered in the
records that By -Law Enforcement Of-
ficer Keith Crawford has perform-
ed his duties exceptionally well. To
date, eight private residences and one
business have been charged with ex-
cessive noise. The Tree -house
restaurant has decided not to pay the
fine ($103) but to challenge the
charge at a hearing to be held in
Grand Bend on Friday, September 13
at 9:30 alai. Witnesses are being sub-
poenaed by Village council.
Two by-laws were read and passed:
they involved Parking in Beach Area
and a site plan agreement for
Kadlecik property.
Councillor Dennis Snider reported
on a very interesting meeting with the
Grand Bend Airport Committee on
August 9. It appears Grand Bend will
lose the landing strip and the
businesses associated with the airport
if some means of both private and
government support is not found to
keep a runway up to licensed stan-
dards. Council was asked to par-
ticipate with facilities and possible
grant monies.
As a gesture of good -will, council
voted to present this year's O.P.P.
contingent with 25 Grand Bend lapel
pins.
Church of God
There were no services- this past
Sunday in Grand Bend. The Pastor
and many of the congregation were in
Thamesford to attend a provincial
convention there.
BAKE SALE — The Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Women's
League in Grand Bend held their two-day Bake and Croft Sale after
Masses this past weekend. Although rain somewhat dampened sales
on Saturday, a sunny Sunday brought lots of customers to C.W.L.
workers Thea Stokkermans and daughter Wendy, (left), Dora Rood
and Mary Mennen, all of RR 2 Grand Bend.

Wayne Prance to have his vessel
"The Farmer" approved for Aux-
iliary Coast Guard, search and rescue
duty. Mission accomplished.
The further proposal by fisherman
Joe Green to modify and use his
fishing boat as part of the Auxiliary
was found to need considerably more
study since the Coast Guard does not
have any "charter or lease employ-
ment" arrangements said Quick.
More explanations as to the pro-
cedures and methodology of Auxiliary
Coast Guard were made by Quick.
Harbourmaster David Gill reported
that to date the harbour staff and
voluntee"s have been involved in 21
various rescues this boating season ( a
statistic that nearly equals the most
"tasked" Auxiliary Coast Guard in
Quick's records). In addition, Har-
bour has assisted with towing in seven
windsurfers who needed help.
Revenues reported by the harbour-
master now top $100,000 for the year.
United Church News
An enthusiastic congregation
greeted George and Margaret Jenner
from Cambridge at the outdoor ser-
vice, of Grand Bend United Church,
Sunday.
George played the organ for the
hymns, favoured us with a solo and
accompanied his wife as she sang
"There Is A Light".
He spoke for a few moments on his
Christian faith and said that
something holding us back from
praising the Lord is forgiveness,
knowing that God forgives us and us
being able to forgive others.
Rev. Peebles took as his text por-
tions from Jeremiah 36. His medita-
tion was titled "God's Truth
Destroyed Never".
He said that these words present a
challenge, a warning and a word of
