Flowers bloom at Kirkton
There was a very good showing of
flowers at the Kirkton Horticultural
Scoiety annual flower show August 20
at the Kirkton Woodham Community
hall.
A good crowd came to see the
display of flowers and enjoy the pro-
gram. Mrs. Joyce Strahan welcomed
everyone to the show and was
chairlady for the program.
Mrs. Garth Blackler favored with
solos of different flowers. She was ac-
companied on the piano by Mrs_
Harold Davis.
Pupils from grade seven and eight
of Osborne Central School par-
ticipated in a poster contest earlier in
the year.
The awards for these was presented
by Mrs. Ross Tufts. Grade eight
theme was "Youth in Spring" and
winners were Arlene Hoonaa rd.
Joanne Marquardt. Donna Smith.
Sheila Oke, Anne Delbridge and Tim
McAllister.
Grade seven theme was Kirkton
Horticulture! -stivals of flowers and
winners were Susan Selves, Lori
Parker, Tracy Shute. Robbie Tomlin-
son, Bradley Hern, Debra Pfaff,
Honourable Mention to Steven
Heywood.
Miss Jean Copeland introduced the
speaker, Mr. Cecil Wright of Lambeth
with an audio visual presentation of
Chelsea Garden England and some on
London, Ontario Rose Society which
was enjoyed by all. Mrs. Marjorie At-
thill thanked the speaker.

honours graduate of Matthews
Hall in London, Patty has been
the successful recipient of a
variety of scholastic awards in
French, Art and Academic Profj-
ciency. She is the only grand-
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Dobbs Sr. of Exeter and sister of
Fred Dobbs 111 of the University of
Guelph. Following the summer
position as counsellor at Huron
Church Camp, Bayfield, Patty will
begin studies at the University of
Western Ontario. Relatives, god-
parents and friends join in offer- •
ing all best wishes for future suc-
cess and happiness.

As fall weather fast approaches the
('raigwiel Activity ('entre is planning
an interesting program,for all seniors
of the village and area.
On Friday, September 13 at 8 p.m.
at the "Centre••. Mrs. Evelyn
McNaughton will he showing slides of
her trip to Australia.

Evening of Music with "Afternoon
Delight" I a group of the Sweet
Adehnes % as well as twat talent in the
Ailsa Craig Town hall on Friday. ( Ic-
tober4al8p.m.
Another evening's program you
won't want to miss is the slide presen-
tation of Evelyn's recent trip to New
Zealand to he shown in the "('entre"
on Friday, Oe(ober 18. During the pro-
gram, the draw for the Windmill Quilt

some remarks for the judge of what
we should do and should not do when
showing.
The Toronto Dominion Bank
donated prizes for the best gladiolas
in the show. Winners were Mrs.
Michael Elford and Mrs. George
Sereda.
The prizes for the most points were
as follows: Mrs. Huth McLaren, Mrs.
Barbara French and Mrs. Joyce
Strahan. This year they had most
points for the junior section. Winners
were Elizabeth French and Andrea
French. Mrs. Althill presented the
gifts.
Saintsbu.ry barbecue
proves successful

Rev. Peter Derrick was in charge
of Holy Communion service at St.
Patrick's Sunday. Servers were Don
Cunningham and Paul Bedell and
Mrs. Tom Kooy provided music. Next
Sunday service is planned for 8:313

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tindall were
guests Sunday with friends at
Goderich.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Davis
visited their daughter Mr. and Mrs.

sponsored a successful chicken
barbecue to about 200 people,
Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob MacGillivray and
Courtney were dinner guests Sunday
with Mrs. Mary Davis. .
The children of the Sunday School
are enjoying the weekly 'pool parties'
in Hugh and Hazel Davis' pool.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kooy and Mrs.
Mary Davis were dinner guests Satur-
day with Mrs. Helen MacDonald.
