Exeter 11 atoms get upset
This week will be a two week report
of soccer action in Exeter as the
deadline was missed last week. In
squirt action Exeter I played Denfield
and despite a strong effort lost be a
2-0 count. Ben VanBergen played
outstanding for Exeter I.
In their second game Exeter I won
by default over Nairn II as they did
not have enough players to field a
team.
A hat trick by Marty DeBruyn led
Exeter III to a 4-2 win over third place
Lucan II. Exeter took an early lead
and at one time led by a 3-0 score, but
Lucan came back to :3-2 before
DeBruyn put the game away for Ex-
eter 111, Exeters other goal was
scored by Brian McAllister.
Exeter I II's win set up the clash this
past week between two unbeaten
teams in the squirt division. Exeter
III and Nairn I. Nairn started out
strong putting Exeter on the defen-
sive and building a 2-0 half time lead.
In the second half Exeter took over
completely but other than a nice goal
by Julia Brand could not score. Final
score 2 - for Nairn I.
Because of the long- weekend no
games were played in the atom divi-
sion two weeks ago. This week Exeter
I travelled to Nairn for a game. Nairn
was really up for the game and sent
the Exeter youngsters home with a 4-0
defeat.
Exeter II pulled off a real upset by
defeating previously unbeaten and
league leading Ilderton by a 1-0score.
Gail Smith set up Jamie Dan Dam for
the winning score.
In mosquito play Exeter1 played
Exeter 11. Because of holidays coach
Lorne Rideout has had real problems
to field a team and this game was no
exception. Exeter II played well and
took a 3-0 half time lead but despite
playing shorthanded Exeter 1 put on
a real effort in the second half and
managed to close the gap to :3-2 on two
goals by Shawn McFalls but it was not
enough as Exeter II scored an in-
surance marker for a 4-2 final score.
Scoring for Exeter IE were Giselle
Charrette with two and Peter
VTsscher and Bryden Gryseels one
each. 'Trevor Cregan and Jean Paul
Maurer played excellent for Exeter
III. Exeter III travelled to Bryanston
for their game. The Exeter team pro-
ved to be too much for Bryanston
scoring on three of their numerous op-
portunities. Bryanston spoiled
Bryanston's bid for a shut out in the
las( minute of the game. Final score
3-1. Scoring for Exeter III were Mar-
ty DeBruyn 12► and Eric Reimer.
In (his weeks mosquito action Ex-
eter 1 had their game postponed. Ex-
eter II travelled to Bryanston and
came away with a 2-1 win Scoring lor
Exeter 11 were Chris Gardner and
Garry Chappel with his first of the
season.
Exeter 111 played their best game
of the season handing league leading
Grand Bend a 4-0 defeat. their first of
the season. Grand Bend playing with
a man short managed to stay close to
Exeter in the first hall of the game on-
ly trailing by one by h tlf tirne but in
the second half Exet put together
some excellent scoria drives for a 4-0
final score. Scor-) for Exeter 111
