Third annual Suninierfest a success in Crediton
Ideal weather conditions prevailed
throughout the weekend to allow the
third annual Crediton Summerfest to
be successful.
With the theme of Homecoming.
hundreds of former residents were
back home to celebrate and view the
many pictures and photos on display
in the township hall. Many of the 1'30
attending the Braun reunion Sunday
afternoon included a visit to the hall
on their agenda.
Also showing a number of times on
the weekend was a 15 minute film of
Crediton and the inhabitants of 1947.
Summerfest activities got under-
way at 7 p.m. Friday night with chair-
man Norm Eveland letting a number
of balloons into the sky with the help
of the Junior Miss contestants.

The winners were Carol Ann
McQuaid of Seaforth, Yvette Camp-
bell from London, Wendy Watson of
Clinton and Crediton's own Denise
Hendrick.
• Susan Ratz of Shipka W:as named
Junior Miss and was crowned by last
year's winner Sherri Wells. The run-.
nersup were Darlene O'Rourke and
Aimee Glavin. Gloria Martin was the
co-ordinator of this event. -
Ruth Martin was chosen Sum
merfest Princess and will compete in
the 1985 Exeter Fair queen contest
-sponsored by PJ's Roadhouse.
The runnersup were Joanne Slaght
and Jody Mills. Jack Struck was in
charge of the Princess contest.
Saturday morning's events started
with a very successful and delicious
pancake breakfast sponsored and
prepared by the Crediton volunteer
firemen.
Saturday's parade directed by,
ByronClarke was again successful
and used a Homecoming theme.
Winning in the best decorated
category pertaining to the theme of
Homecoming were the Horseless car-
riage operated by Reg Miller and Jim
Cleave with Florence Miller and Beth
Cleave as the pit crew and Hannah
Lambie and Brent Haugh as.

Old MacI)onald's farm produced by
the Howard Hendrick family was the
best family entry and the best
organizational float was entered by
president Marlene Glavin and the
Credito juinor hall association.

be the best commercial entry and the
Crediton ('annibalswith the Smith's.
Browning's and Bowers' families and
friends aboard won in the comedy
lass.
Gerald Tyler had the best horse
drawn Vehicle and Bonnie McNutt
was judged the best horse and rider.
In the decorated bicycle category
the winners were Derek, Chris and
Amanda Dinney, B.J. Tideswell,
Tabatha Dinney,Robert Mitchell and
3rent Jesney. Also getting a prize was
the bicycle built for two operated by
Dave McDonald and !lobed Bowers.
Five games of Bessie Bingo again
proved to be very popular. Winners of
$250 each were Sue Misener and Jim
O'Toole while Art Brand and Phyllis
_Lightfoot received $125 apiece and
$62.50 a' iece went to Leita Hill, Alvin
Flynn, Melvin Greb. Lesley Pfaff.
Morley Pfaff, Lorraine Bowers and
Larry Eveland.
Musical entertainment was provid-
ed continually throughout the
weekend by the Exeter Main street
jug band, Beechwood, Blackwell
Sideroad and Cheyenne witk.,Johnny
Wurm.
Young visitors enjoyed a busy mid-
way and other events included bingo.
a chain sawing competition.
Sunday morning's interdenomina-
tional church service was well attend-
ed as was a Saturday night beet
barbecue and the food booths were
popular attractions.
Treasurer Fred Bowers said Mon-
day he didn't have any ideas of how
much money would he realized from
the event.
Profits which have been as high as
$7.000 in previous years are used for
community betterment.
