Mohawks schedule set for upcoming hockey season
We are still in the midst of summer and sporting activities that
go with this kind of weather, but, Doc Campbell is already think-
ing about the upcoming hockey season.
Campbell who along with Bob Rowe and Jack Chipchase will
be guiding the fortunes of the Exeter Mohawks intermediate
hockey club sends along information regarding the 1985-86 season.
A few weeks ago we reported the Mohawks had been accepted
as an Ontario Hockey Association intermediate "C" club and would
be competing aga, irnst clubs from the south. The Mohawks will be
playing in the "C" division, but the opposition will be coming from
the north and not the south.
It will be a seven team league. Included will be the defending
champion Elora Rocks, New Hamburg, Tavistock, Palmerston and
Hillsburg along with new clubs from Exeter and Arthur.
Believe it or not, it's only two months to the first league home
game for the Mohawks. They will be playing host to Hillsburg on
Sunday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the South Huron Rec Centre.
Exciting finish
The pennant race in the American league eastern division
acould he decided in the last three games of the schedule.
• Although the Toronto Blue Jays still lead by four games, the
▪ New York Yankees are coming on strong. These two clubs play

each other in the final three games in early October.
The final game of the original schedule may not turn out to
be the last. A game between Toronto and Baltimore cancelled.
because of the strike will be played if it would have any bearing
on the standings.
Since Billy Martin returned as Yankee manager the Bronx
Bombers have been almost unbelievable. Since the strike they have

whittled five games off the Blue Jays lead.
If the Toronto club gets into the 1985 World Series, it will create
a real problem for officials of CNE Stadium.
The first and second games of the Fall Classic are scheduled
for Toronto on October 19 and 20 and the sixth and seventh con-
tests on October 26 and 27.

The Toronto Argonauts have home games scheduled for
August 20 and 27 and Argos general manager Ralph Sazio is very
unhappy with the scheduling.
Three tight races
The only team which appears to have a s nooth road to a pen-
nant is the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL west. They have a com-
fortable eight game lead.
The battle in the National east between the Mets and Cards
will likely go down to the wire and the same could happen between
the Jays and Yankees and also with Kansas City and California.
Rose gets closer
Pete Rose should beat Ty Cobb's hit record at home in Cin-
cinatti. After three games early this week in Pittsburgh, the Reds
have 10 games at home and Pete only needs 15 more base hits.
Baseball trivia
It was 34 years ago Monday that Bill Veeck of the St. Louis
Browns used a midget Eddie Gaedel. The 43 inch tall ball player
drew a walk.
One{of the pitchers on that team was current Blue Jays pit-
ching coach Al Widmar.
The Philadelphia Phillies of 1909 had 10 straight games cancell-
ed because of rain. That's a record that will never likely be broken.
