Hodgert family goes g.Ifing

• The tenth annual .Ilodgert invita-
tional golf tournament was held at the
Exeter Golf and Country Club Sunday
- -with 31 golfers participating.
The clan later returned to the home
of Reg and Jean Hodgert to enjoy a
sniorgasbord luncheon. Reg Hodgert
welcomed the group, and reviewed
the history of the trophhy.
Chairlady Lillian Hodgert called on
Reg to present the trophy to a four-
some consisting of Rick Parker.
Florence Richardson, Larry Mayo
and Ivan Hern.
Toe tapping music
at Craigholnie party

Marg and Leroy Walker accom-
panied by Bill Carr of Harrison.
Michigan supplied toe -tapping and
hand -clapping old-tyme music for an
hour at Craigholme Wednesday even-
ing for those celebrating August
birthdays.
"Ilappy Birthday" was sung to the
birthday folk. especially Roy Morton
who was 90 that day. Birthday cake,
ice-cream and beverage brought a
pleasant evening to a close.
Family Night
The Masonic hall was the gathering
place for the'Riverview Women's In-
stitute "Family Night" Tuesday,
August 6.
At 7 p.m. the group sat down to a
bountiful supper.
After the meal all enjoyed a time of
fellowship while they played euchre
and uno.
Mrs. Mary Sutherland and her
Family and Consumer Affairs com-
mittee convened the activities.

Margaret Barnes of Craigholme.

Annual picnic for
Dashwood Lutheran

The annual church picnic was held
following the morning service at Zion
Lutheran church. After a bountiful
dinner, the races and games were
held for the children. '
Winners were pre-school, Josh
Becker; kindergarten and grade 1.
Jason Becker: grade 2 and 3, Kevin
Beierling: grade 4 and 5, Julie
Restemayer: grade 6 and 7. Stacey
Rader; grade 8 and 9. Terry Feltz:
several relays were held with leaders.
Tim Miller. Terry Feltz and Chris
Miller; a tug of war and balloon toss
were enjoyed: Roy Gibson won the
peanut guessing game.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Taylor. Kit-
chener. were Sunday visitors with
Mary Rader.

day with ('lay ton and Alice Kooy and
family at their tradei at Rus -Ton
village camp ground where they are
spending a few weeks holidays and on
Saturday we visited with our cousins
Maj. Hugh and Mrs MacDonald.

Eleanor lives. Michael is a fellow
CUSO volunteer working in Katcha,
Niger State. Nigeria.
Rev. M. Mellecke conducted the
service at the Blue Water Rest Home.

Lockhart reunion at Parkhill.

Gary Waugh of Komoka on Saturday.
August 24. was honored with a coin
munily shower held in St. Thomas
Anglican Church on Wednesday
evening.
Mrs. Don Roloson welcomed
everyone and conducted a contest
Assisting the bride-to-be to open her
many gifts was her maid of honor
Cathy Retera, her sister Helen and
Linda Waugh, the groom's sister.
When all the gilts were unwrapped
and displayed, Betty Ann thanked
everyone for the generosity and kind-
ness. Following lunch a social time
was enjoyed.

visited with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hall
and Jason of Strathroy on Saturday
evening, and also called on Miss Rona
Hickey at Chateau Gardens of
Parkhill on 'Sunday afternoon.

visited her friend Mrs. Elmer Sum-
mers on Sunday, afternoon.

This 4-11 year is drawing to a (lost'
and the members of the Exeter 4 11
horse and pony club are preparing for
the 4-11 exam.
The exam consists of a general sec -
lion. eg. When was the first 4-11 club
started''. and a horse section in-
cluding evert hing we have learned
about health. nutrition and caring for
the horse.
On August 6. the members of the
club met at ('am Darling's house. The
meeting began with 11r. Brand quiz-
zing us in preparation -for the exam.
Then Mr. Brand read a letter of
thanks frohr Paul Turnbull of the
South Huron Association for (he Men-
tally Handicapped. The rodeo was a
'.ig success and the club would like to
,.n thanks to all who came out to par-
ticipate or watch or help out. •
Marie Debruvn brought up the sug-
gestion of going to Canada's
Wonderland on August 27 and the ever
present problem of fund raising.
After the business section of, the
meeling.we began a lesson on hous-
ing for a horse, storing feed and tack
and the different types of bits, saddles
and grooming equipment.
Coming up this weekend is the
Crediton Summerfest. There will be
.a horse show on Saturday at the ball
park.
Low singles went to Douglas
Hodgert and Michelle Riehl, while
Brad Cann captured the prize for a
sero -putt hole.
Guests were present from London.
Seaforth, Kitchener, Waterloo,
Komoka, Mitchell, Chatham, Zion,
Hensall and the Thames Road
Community.
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Duncan and
Douglas of Ottawa spent a few days
with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Duncan. On
Saturday they attended the wedding
of Joan's brother in Windsor.

In the play offs in baseball the
Usborne bantam boys beat Lieury
16-3 Thursday night at Thames Road
Park.
The Junior Farmers catered to a
Sausage and Pan Cake Breakfast in
the church basement. Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Reg Hodgert are
spending a few days this week with
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Macnaughton at
their cottage at Port Carling.

Congratulations to Mary Thomson
on her marriage to Paul Eisler Satur-
day at Carmel Presbyterian Church
in Hensall. Mary and Paul Eisler
have built a house in St. Columban in
which they will reside.
Another wedding took place Satur-
day when John Binnendyk married
Kate Ferguson at St. Paterick's
Church in Dublin. John and Kate Bin-
nendyk will live in Deep River where
John is working for the Hydro Com-
pany. best wishes to both couples.
Visitors with Al and Margaret Hog-
garth this past week were Janice and
Grant Schultz from North Bay and
their two sons Paul and Gary; May
O'Day, her daughter Linda Markham
and Linda's daughter Melissa
Markham all of Detroit, Michigan,
and Ruby lloggarth of Zurich.

funeral of Stella Bawden. Stella
Bawden .nee Ingram► was raised in
the Hensall area and was Janice
Shultz' mother and a sister of May
O'Day and Ruby Hoggarth.
