Anniversary
On Sunday August 4 - The
Alexander -Chandler families were in-
vited to attend the 45th wedding an-
niversary of Norm and Helen Alex-
ander of Londesborough. The family
held the gathering at the Falls
Reserve Conservation Area at Ben
Miller. Many of the families attend-
ed for the day, as well as distant
relatives who camped for the
occasion.
Demo day
Cleve Gingerich, owner of C.G.
Farm Supply, has bounced back after
the unexpected shock of losing his
Case franchise in February when
giant multinational Tenneco Inc. con-
solidated J.L. Case with newly ac-
quired International Harvester:
Gingerich was allowed to retain the
franchise for Case industrial
equipment.
Gingerich hosted a tractor and plow
demonstration of llesston and Duetz
equipment on the Gerald Regier farm
on August 2. Hesston equipment is
manufactured in Italy by the Fiat cor-
poration, and Duelz is produced in
Germany. C.C. Farm Supply carries
complete lines of both companies

- Gingerich said he had a very good
spring. Summer is normally a slack
time in the farm machinery business.
he added, and farmers are exercising
caution al .present because of low
commodity prices.
Gingerich said he was very pleas-
ed with the turn -out. which attracted
more than he had expected. as many
farmers are in the midst, of grain
harvesting.
Local dairy- farmer Larry Merner
came to out the two brands of trac-
tors. and said he thinks his next trac-
tor will he a Hesston from the Zurich
dealership.
"When f buy, 1 want service. and
the dealer is the main factor".

Bechler reunion

The Bechler reunion was held all
weekend at the Zurich Community
Centre. Relatives arrived from all
over North America int:luding; Alber-
ta, Saskatchewan, Idaho, Nebraska,
Iowa, Arizona, California, Colorado,
Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania,
Michigan, Ohio and Ontario.
'Members of the Bechler family in this
area are the families of Leonard and
Greta Erb, Emmerson and Anna Erb,
Irvin and Alice Gingerich and Albert
and Wilma Erb.
The weekend opened with a bus trip
on Friday to the Elmira area in-
cluding lunch at the Stonecrock
restaurant. Friday evening everyone
got together for a barbecue and corn
roast. Saturday was filled with a mix-
ture of good food all day long, lots of
visiting, going over old memories and
meeting new friends. The day ended
with a dance to music supplied by the
Blake "Good Old Boys". Two of the
most energetic dancers were two-
year-old Leanne Erb of Hensall and
almost two-year-old Jacquelyn Cor-
riveau of Goderich. -
Sunday was wrap-up day with a
church service led by the "Disciples",
a group of young adults from the Men-
nonite church who do a great job of
praising Jesus in song. After the ser-
vice a business meeting was held to
discuss this reunion and to make
plans for the tenth which will be held
in two -and -a -half years in Phoenix.

The two ladies who are both 89!
Also noted was the number of people
for Saturday supper. There were 159
• people served which is the largesl
amount since the beginning of this
event. The day ended with a delicious
smorgasbord lunch.

Ducharme reunion
On Sunday, July 28 the 17th annual
Ducharme reunion was held at the
home of Avila and Blanche
Ducharme, RR 2 Zurich. with 50
relatives in attendance. The family
was also celebrating 11 July bir-
thdays. After games and a horseshoe
pitching tournament everyone en-
joyed a delicious beef barbecue
supper.
Jeffrey reunion
A family reunion was held on Sun.
at the home of Mrs. Dolly Jeffrey with
approximately 50 members of her
family attending from various places
such as London, Exeter. Windsor and
Zurich area. All enjoyed the nice sun-
ny day outdoors visiting, along with
a delicious smorgasbord supper.
Bake sale
Another successful bake sale was
had over the weekend by the C.W.L.
ladies of St. Boniface Church after all
the Masses. Special thanks to Father
Mooney for the -use of his garage.
Playground draw
The children of the summer
playground are selling tickets on a
care bear to be drawn for on August
15 with proceeds to help finance the
program.
Skating Club raffle
The Zurich and area figure skating
club are selling tickets on a cabbage
patch doll dressed in 100 $1.00 bilis:

23.

Mrs. Margaret Platt has been
transferred from St. Joseph's
Hospital to South Huron hospital
before returning here to the home.
The sympathy of the stall is extend-
ed to fellow staff tnemlxer. Mrs Verlie
Lavery and her family in the Toss of
their son, Paul.
Some of the residents enjoyed a flus
ride to Grand Bend. Centralia and Ex
eter area on Er-iday alternoon.
Bingo was played on F'r'iday even-
ing followed by refreshments.

Juliette's daughter Yvonne Hart-
man and son Jonathan of Mississauga
spent a few days with her mother. and
visited • with mother-in-law Mrs.
Teresa Hartman also.

I'eter's Church. St. Joseph on Satur-

Following their honeymoon the cou-
ple will reside in Hensall.
• Vicki is the daughter of Ron and
Sharen Schroeder, and Mike is the son
of Matthew and Martha Ducharme,
all of the Zurich area.
Jerome, Carmel. Renee and
Meagan Sweeney spent last week in
Point Clark at the cottage of Bob King
while daughter Beth stayed with her
sister and brother-in-law, Heather
and Paul Klopp.

baptized al Sl. Peter's Church. St.
Joseph, on Sunday. August 4 by
Father Bensette with godparents be-

of lawn darts and volley hall were en-
joyed by both young and old.

children recently enjoyed a two week
vacation camping at Algonquin Park.

1 Zurich returned hone last Tuesday
after a very nice threqcweek vacation
in holland visiting with relatives.
They were accompanied by parry's
brother, Anton and wife Bertha Pen-
nings who had been visiting here for
three week's previous.

Verlie) on the sudden death of their
son Paul on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Blaise Ducharme of
Windsor are spending a month holi-
day at a cottage on the Blue Water
Lodge and visiting with several
relatives in the area.
Gerard and Vicki Ducharme and
family of Wyoming are spending a
couple of days camping at "Ma and
Pa's" campground on the Blue
Water.
