Canada Employment ('entre for Students How many people can remember the summer jobs they held as students -- wattressing, boxing groceries. cutting lawns. painting fences? This summer, not unlike summers of the past, local students are serving the community by performing a variety of jobs. In order to applaud the work done by our students, the South Huron District Secondary School who plans to study Radio and Television Broadcasting at Niagara College in September. Her job at Ex - Brian Blackburn is delivering auto parts this summer Canada Employment Centre for Students would like to share with the readers of the Times -Advocate what - some Exeter area students are doing this summer. Finding a summer job is no easy task; but with the right attitude suc- cess is possible. The slogan 'Ready and Willing to Work' best defines the students of Exeter and the surroun- ding area. Brian Blackburn is no exception. Brian, a marketing student at Fan- shawe College, is working this sum- mer for McKerlie-Millan Auto Parts in Exeter. In this position, Brian is responsible for delivering necessary Cathy Crowe is part of the office staff at Moore Insurance auto parts around Exeter and the nearby districts. Cathy Crowe is also working in Ex- eter for the summer months. She has been employed -as part of the office staff at George T. Moore Insurance. Cathy's main interests were in secretarial and clerical positions; hence, this summer has proved satis- fying for her in terms of her employ- ment goals. Cathy is a student at South Huron District Secondary School who will be entering grade 13 in the fall. At the South Huron Recreation Cen- tre, several students are preparing for an enthusiastic and fun -filled sum- mer. Students Christine Eveland, Amami. Students know that summer jobs. .teff Peck is keeping busy at Centralia Farmers Supply Limited no' matter what type. provide valuable work experience and the chance to learn new skills. As well. for students like Michelle Baptie who is presently employed at Exeter Motors., summer jobs provide the extra money needed to go away to school in the fall. Michelle is a graduate of Jeff Clarke and Sandra Peck are do- ing odd jobs • eter Motors will help to save some money for her tuition. Jeff Peck was also eager to earn money for school, but wanted a part time job while he was still in classes as well. Jeff began work at Centralia Farmers Supply Limited early in May while he was finishing grade 13 at Central Huron Secondary School. He performs a variety of tasks at this job which range from waiting on customers in the hardware store, to moving lumber in the yard. Jeff is a Kippen area student who plans to at- tend university in September. For many students. full time work for the summer is not easy to find. However, they still manage to keep busy doing short-term odd jobs. Jeff Clarke and Sandra Peck found tem- porary work at the home of Mrs. Janice Bisback in Hensall. They worked for several days doing some yard clean up and odd jobs around the house. Once again, any kind of job ex- perience is useful for younger students like Sandra and Jeff. Mrs. Bisback, owner of Church House Antiques in ffensall, also employed Angela Malik to work in the antique store. Angela. a grade 13 stu- dent at South Huron Highschool, is in- volved in everything from cleaning items in the store to being a sales clerk. Angela Malik works store at an antique Every summer, the Government helps to promote employment of students by offering wage subsidies to employers. Tony Hartman, a Univer- sity of Guelph agricultural student, was hired by John Muller under a government program called S.E.E.D. (Student Employment Experience Development). The S.E.E.D. pro- gram offers assistance to employers who create new jobs for students in career -related positions. Like his employee, Mr. Muller also attended Guelph's agricultural college and can therefore sympathize 'with the situa- tion of students who wish to gain necessary work experience related to their areas of study. As you can see, Exeter area students have taken employment positions in all areas of the labour market. For the month of June, 177 students were placed in full time, part time, and casual jobs. Students were busy haying, picking stones, waitress- ing, babysitting, and the list goes on. We must congratulate these students on their eagerness and enthusiasm. However. many other young people remain on file who are still looking for summer work, full time. part time, or even for a few days. If you have any odd jobs that need to be done around your home such as Tony Hartman (on left) works on John Muller's pig farm weeding, painting, cleaning the at- tic... Hire A Student!!!
