Erosion problems
in Tuckersmith
The erosion problems on the
Hayfield River adjacent to their pro-
perties was discussed at Tuckersmith
Township Council session Tuesday
when owners of Part Lot 51, Conces-
sion 1, London Road Survey, Harold
Black and Steve Tyndall, were pre-
sent. They informed council they
believed that 131: percent of the cost
of the study to determine the cause of
the erosion should be born fully by the
municipality and that the cost of the
repairs necessary under the report
should be split half and half between
the township and the residents
affected.
As well they requested council to
consider to ensure the temporary
repairs are done immediately to pre-
vent further erosion next spring.
Reeve Robert Bell and Councillor
John Brownridge each told them the
council could not get involved finan-
cially in this. Reeve Bell said tax-
payers' money could not be used to
pay for the study or the corrective
work necessary to prevent further
erosion. He said council would be set-
ting a precedent for future years as
there werenumerous situations in the
municipality of a similar nature.
Council offered to forward a letter
to the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation
Authority to provide assistance to
Tyndall and Black in having the river
bed cleared up adjacent to their pro-
perties in order to help alleviate fur-
ther erosion problems.
Charlene Townsend, Princess of the
Tuckersmith Sesquicentennial at-
tended the meeting to present to coun-
cil on behalf of her cousin, David
Townsend, Sesquicentennial King,
and herself. a certificate of apprecia-
tion for the privilege and honour of
serving the township in their respec-
tive capacities. She also presented for
the municipal office a picture of the
King, Queen, Princess and Prince.
Council will ask the Town of
Seaforth to proceed immediately to
have an agreement prepared between
the town and the township for the in-
vestigation of -a landfill site. Coun-
cillor John Brownridge one of the
township two representatives on the
landfill committee, explained the
criteria the committee is using in its
search for a new landfill site.
' • mission will be granted to the

tent for . the annual Ciderfest on

Council will purchase from Elec-
trozad Company Limited 56 street
lights at,$210.70 for eight foot light and
arm; $235.32 for ten foot arm and
light: and $247.98 for a twelve foot
arm and light for the new street lights
-for Vanastra.
Council will forward a letter from
Arthur Coombs concerning an
obstruction in the O'Brien Drainage
Works to Township • of Stanley for
their information and corrective
action.
Reeve Bell will be the represen-
tative on the Forrest -Thompson
Municipal Drain in the Township of
Hay on July 22.
An application for a tile drainage
loan for $20.000 was approved. •
Reeve Bell and Councillor. Robert
Broadfoot will sit on a task force to
review uniform ice rental rates and
joint operating agreements with the
Townships of Hay, Stanley, Usborne
and the Villages of Hensall and
Zurich.
A request for work on the Upshall
Drainage Works from Don Upshall
was accepted and forwarded to the
municipal engineer for his
investigation. -
The meeting went into committee
of the whole to discuss the budget
which will be reported on August t►.
