Mrs. Jean Carey, presided
for the Christmas meeting of
the Marian Ritchie Evening
Auxiliary, held in the nicely
decorated church basement
Tuesday evening.
For her special number,
Mrs. Duncan Scott had in-
vited Miss Katie Kerslake
who displayed all her lovely
handmade Christmas items.
Miss Kerslake makes dulls,
spirals and house blessings
from wheat and she
demonstrated wheat weaving
on a spiral. This demonstra-
tion and displaywas enjoyed
by all.
Mrs. Carey opened the
meeting with a poem "The
Wondering Age" followed by
•Christmas carols which were
sung throughout the meeting,
accompanied by Mrs. Ivan
Norris on the piano.
Mrs. John Templeman had
the devotions taking her
Christmas scripture from
Luke 2 verses 8-20. Thirteen
members and seven visitors

ing a Christmas custom on
tradition.
Mrs. Philip James chose for
her topic a Christmas
reading, "A Time For Tradi-
tion", closing with a
Christmas poem. •
Mrs. Robert Laing presided
for the business portion, when
1983 programs were handed
out and membership fees
paid. Everyone was remind-
ed of the annual meeting of
the Stratford Presbyterian
Ladies to be held in St. An-
drews Church, Stratford,
January 11.
WI meets
A bountiful pot luck dinner
preceded the Christmas
meeting of the Staffa
Women's Institute
Wednesday.
Mrs. Ross McPhail presid-
ed for the meeting opening
with a poem, "Christmas
Mail" and the Institute Ode
and Mary Stewart Collect.
Twenty-two members
answered the roll call with a
Christmas recipe and sample.
Mrs. Dalton Smale gave a
humorous reading, "The
meanest Mother in the
World".
Eight members contributed
to the program by bringing
and commenting on different
articles including a bubble
ring, Christmas decorations
and favours, flower ar-
rangements, scarf clip,
Christmas coasters, afghan,•
door swag and pinecone
wreath.
Mrs. Ross McPhail lead in
a sing -song of favourite
carols, including 0 Come all
ye Faithful, Away in a
Manger, 0 Little town of
Bethlehem and closing with
Silent Night.
Between • the carols, Mrs.
McPhail commented. on
Peace in the World To -day,
the creche, a symbol of
Christmas and Hope for our
future. Mrs. Robert
McCaughey accompanied on
the piano.
Handyman hints were
given by Mrs. George Vivian
and they included some ex-
cellent suggestions for gift
wrapping, door decorating,
how to renovate out of style
blouses,uses for old electric
cords, tailers hams, metric
measurements and how to
make fruit leather, plus some
for sampling.
President Mrs. Lloyd Miller
presided for the business. The
course "More Cents than
Dollars" led by Mrs. Wm.
Mahon and Mrs. Art Smale
will be held in a day session
in the township hall sometime
in January.
Anyone wishing to take this
short course is asked to con-
tact either Mrs. Mahon or
Mrs. Smale.
Mrs. Dalton Smale, Mrs.
John Templeman and Mrs.
Jack Burchill volunteered to
head a committee to plan a
card party or dessert euchre.
Secret pals were revealed
with a exchange of gifts and
new pals chosen for 1983.
Mrs. Russell Worden
volunteered to deliver the
hamper of gifts brought in for
the nursing home. The sing-
ing of t)Canada brought an en-
joyable afternoon to a close.

About 100 sat down to a
meal after church. Sunday.
This meal was a special pro-
ject by the church choir to
raise money. This proved a
very successful means. .
Monday afternoon the
Elimville United Church
Women held their Christmas
meeting . President Marion
Skinner was in charge of the
business. The roll call was
answered by a "hand-crafted
table decoration". It was
decided that the United
church Women would supply
the necessary materials and
the board of management
would find the necessary
labor to fix the back entrance
of the church.
The women will be quilting
in the new year. Mrs. Sharon
Lynn gave the manse report
and also asked everyone to
continue to save their Zehr's
tapes.
Mrs. Skinner and Kay
Penhale were in charge of the
Christmas program. Mrs.
Skinner opened with prayer.
Mrs. Penhale read the
Christman story from the
Bible.
Mrs. Skinner, Miss Ruth
Skinner and Mrs. Grace Pym
conducted a "Candle Lighting
Service". During this many
Christmas carols were sung.
Mrs. Shirley cooper read a
story "One Step at a Time".
Mrs. Shirley Kerslake played
several Christmas selections
on the piano.
Mrs. Skinner closed with a
poem "New Year". Mrs.
Gladys Skinner, Mrs.. Mar-
jorie llerdman and Miss Ruth
Skinner served a lovely
Christmas lunch.
Unit one of the United
Church Women catered to the
Kirkton-Woodham Optimist
club on Monday evening.
The annual Sunday School
Christmas concert will be
held Wednesday evening
December 21 at the church at
7:30.
The Christmas Eve church
servicewillbe held December

Mrs. Hodgins and Mrs.
Moffat at the Exeter Public
Library would like to start the
New Year off with a clean
slate. The week of December
28 to January 4 has been
declared "amnesty week" at
the library.
Borrowers who return over-
due books during that wleek
will not be fined.

to check your bookshelves
and magazine racks for any
articles belonging to the
library. it might be a good
idea to look under the bed.
