HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1982-12-22, Page 18The story is told of George
1landelinthe depths' of despair
just before he composed The
Messiah.
Away front his native land
and living in near-proverty in
England, he lived as a hermit
in the few weeks it took him
to write his glorious music.
In the end, he emerged with
a renewed spirit aid a
greater sense of creativity.
The hustle -and -bustle and
crass commercialism of
Christmas these"days is
enough to turn some men of
.goodwill into a spluttering
Scrcoge until the lines of this
great oratorio came ringing
through the snow.
"For unto us a child is
born...and the goverment
shall be upon his shoulder..."
When the spiritual ideal is
born in the souls of men, it is
a child. Walking in darkness,
either moral or physical, is
the death of joy or hope or
self-respect. It is the path of
too many people in these
troubled times in this tired
world.
But the light of Christmas
can still shine. brightly into
weary, heartbroken lives.
You may be tired, driven,
worried, weak, ill, depressed
and overburdened with care..
The Christ spirit can re-
juvenate. You have been try-
ing to carry the burden of
government --self-
government—upon your
shoulders. The Child is born
when you turn self
governinent over to a power
greater than you.
