MR. AND MRS. JEFFREY DARLING
Carol Jane Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William
Allen of Woodham and Jeffrey Roland Darling, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Darling of Exeter were united in
marriage on October 16 at Elimville United Church,
Elimville. Reverend R. Mathieson officiated. Mr. and
Mrs. Darling hove taken up residence in London.

Library contest
to be judged soon

University of Waterloo pro-
fessor John English will an-
nounce the winners of the
Dorothy Shoemaker Literary
Contest in Cambridget Fri-
day, November 26.
These two Canadian
literary figures will present
,the prizes in the contest at the
Cambridge Public Library, 20
Grad Ave. N., at 7:30 p.m.
Sponsored by participating
public libraries in the
Midwestern Regional Library
Systeni, the contest is named
in honor and recognition of
Dorothy Shoemaker, a
former Kitchener chief
librarian. Miss Shoemaker
spent a great deal of her pro-
fessional life encouraging the
development of literary skills
in persons of all ages.
The contest was first held in
1967 as a centennial project of
the Kitchener Public Library.
It became so popular that it

This organization carries
out preventative education
programs in a variety of
ways. Purpose to promote a
life style that is independent
of the use of alcohol or other
harmful drugs. Their educa-
tional program and services
include Sunday speakers,
youth projects and con-
ferences, elementary school
prevention program, com-
munity seminars, plus many
more.
A very informative film,
Psychoactive, was shown and
enjoyed by all. Mrs. Pinker-
ton was thanked by Mrs. Elsie
Tuckey and presented with a
lovely plant. -
A delicious lunch followed
served by Maxine Sereda's
group.

GRADUATES — Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Perry announce the
graduation of their oldest son and daughter, David and
Carolyn, from Mohawk College of Applied Arts and
Technology and Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and
Technology. David graduated with honors in computer
electronic engineering technology; receiving the Allan
Bradley ScholarshiFfor highest academic achievement.
Carolyn graduated with honors from Fanshawe's design
program majoring in fashion design; receiving the
Abraham Karp Apparel technology Award for outstan-
ding achievement. David is employed as a senior
technician with Perle Systems of Toronto, and Carolyn
is self-employed with 'Perry Originals'.

This year, almost 700 prose
and poetry entries were
received from persons of all
ages.
The two join a long line of .
distinguished Canadian
authors and publishers who
have judged the contest over
the years. John Colombo,
Jack McClelland, Jean Little,
Barbara Amiel and George
Jonas are among those who
have participated.
The participating public
libraries have provided $1800
in prizes which wilt be award-
ed to all categories at ' the
discretion of the judges. •
The Midwestern Regional
Library System includes
public libraries in the Region
of Waterloo, and in Perth,
'Huron and Wellington
counties.
MR. AND MRS. CHARLES JACOBS
Marlene Boland and Charles (Chuck) Jacobs were
united in marriage August 21 in a candlelight ceremony
at Trinity United Church, Wheatley, Ontario. The•bride
is the daughter of John and Marg Boland, Lucan and
the groom is the son of Lyle and Barbara Jacob,
Wheatley. Maid of honour was Angeline DeBrouwer
anti best mon was Jim Morris. A reception was held
in Wheatley Communty Centre. The couple now resides
at RR 2 Breslau, Ontario. ,
MR. AND MRS. DAVE SHEA
September 11 was the day on which Mary Jane Penn -
figs and Dave Shea exchanged vows of promise and
love at St. Boniface Parish, Zurich. Mary Jane is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pennings, Zurich and
Dove is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Shea, Vanastra.
The maid of honour was Betty Pennings and
bridesmaids were Elaine Pennings and Carol Jones. The
best man. was Carl Cook and attendants were Barry
Shea and Gerry Pennings. Guests were ushered by
Brian Kennedy and Gerry Pennings: The, couple is
