iJuoior basketball tam gains upset
In a terrific upset South
Huron's junior basketball
defeated' Stratford Central
36-35. Stratford had only lost
two games while our juniors
had only won one. This last
game of the regular season
was played in Exeter in front
of a feverish crowd on
Monday.
South Huron was down five
or six points until the final
quarter where Stratford Cen-
tral was outscored 11-4. Marga
Chaffe scored in the final
seconds t`o give South Huron
that one 'point lead which
gave them the win.
This triumph however dose
not give them a playoff poal-
tion but coach Pat Rowe
stressed that It was a great
way to end the season. The en-
thusiasm_ of the players and
their audience helped a lot.
For sonelayers this was
their last players
basketball
game. Rowe felt "they really
got up for it."
Irene Brand was again

Exeter had to wait the out-
' come of the Bluewater and
Taxandria game. If Taxan-
dria would have beaten
Bluewater not scoring more
than five goals themselves,
Exeter wouldhavewon the
league championship. This
was to no avail, as Bluewater
won the game and league
championship.
The Centennials are looking
forward to next year with
possibly two teams in Exeter
with the possibility of one
team entering the London and
district league.
outstanding with a
remarkable 30 point game. It
was an exciting game as point
Cheryl Dowson fouled out in
the third quarter. What grade
nine Dianne Dearing lacks in
height she makes up for in
speed and "court sense". Her
spirit kept the team up many
times this season.
South Huron had a thrilling
finish to an otherwisedisap-
pointing season which saw
their final record at 2 and 8.
Last week saw the juniors
drop two games to Seaforth
and St. Marys. The Seaforth
game was played in their
undersized gym. Irene Brand
in her final year as a junior
scored 12 points to make the
score 55-21 for Seaforth. South
Huron was completely shut
down as St. Marys trompled
the juniors 33-4 at home.
South Huron attempted 30
shots but only one, by Andrea
Zimmer, went in.
The basketball season is
over for these juniors until
next year when some will
move up to the senior ranks
while others will remain to
improve on this year's record.
