Atoms only minor team to win
The Exeter novice suffered
two Shamrock defeats this
. week, dropping an 8-3 count to
Parkhill on the latter's ice,
Friday, while they were edg-
ed 4-3 by Strathroy at the rec
centre, Sunday.
Jason Heywood was a•one-
man show for the locals as he
scored all six goals with a hat
trick in each performance.
Fred Godbolt had two
assists and singles were con-
tributed by Jeremy Brock,
Allan McFalls and Brad
Thompson.
Juveniles rally short
The local juveniles dropped
a pair of tilts by 5-1 margins
to Lambeth and 6-5 to Lucan.
Lambeth won every period
to take the five points in
Saturday's game at the rec
centre, despite some solid
play by Exeter goalie Pete
Dearing.
Bob Rook scored the lone
Exeter tally with Steve Bat-
ten and Eric Tadgell picking
up the assists for the short-
handed crew.
Sunday night in Lucan the
locals rebounded from
deficits of two and three goals
but then let the tie slip out of
their hands as the Irish scored
with 23 seconds left to win the
game on their home ice.
Exeter picked up one and a
half points by winning the
third and splitting .the first
period. They came back
from a two -goal deficit in the
first and trailed by a count of
5-2 before evening things in
the third on three straight
tallies.
Bob Rook paced the attack
with three goals and Eric
Tadgell had the other two.
Steve Batten drew assists
on three of the markers,
Brent Atthill had a pair and
helping out on one each were
Seniors perfect
in girls basketball
The senior girls basketball
ended their regular season
with a perfect 10 and 0 record.
They enter the Huron -Perth
playoffs in first spot.
In a game that many
players and coach Terry
O'Rourke thought would be
their toughest, against Strat-
ford Central ended their
perfect record, with a 49-31
loss to South Huron.
The senior girls were hot,
pulling out a fast Lead to make
it 24-12 at the half. Some bad
calls drew the ire of O'Rourke
causing a techinal foul
against his team. However,
. when it was realized that
Stratford Central had been
over-estimated play calmed
down.
Maja Gans scored 13 points.
Although plagued with knee
injuries, Lori Brand has been
able to play all games, adding
10 points in this last regular
season game.
Faye Gaiser managed to
shut down towering central
player, Lori Sippel as well as
scoring eight points. Leslie
Hunter-Duvar also scored
eight and Cindy Down had six
points.
Perhaps toughest competi-
tion was given by Seaforth
last Thursday. For the first
half O'Rourke tried out a new
defense but found that it
didn't . work. South Huron
came up from behind to win
in their closest game, 45-41. In
this game Leslie Hunter-
Duvar was high scorer with 12
points. Ten points were add-
ed by Cindy Down.
Yesterday, the South Huron
team played Fanshawe Col-
lege in Exeter. Former Pan-
ther Deb Taylor is now play-
ing for the college team so
was back but this time on the
opposition.
O'Rourke has started prac-
tices for the boy's basketball
teams this past week.
Chris VanGerwen, Brian
Blackburn and Randy Ford.
Bantams nipped
The local bantams suffered
a close 4-2 loss at the hands of
Strathroy at the rec centre.
Wednesday, as the visitors
scored twice in the final
period to cap the win.
Chris Tiedeman scored
both tallies for Exeter with
Dave Woodfine drawing
assists on both. Helping out on
one each were Paul Mellecke
and Dave Russell.
Pee wees drop two
The Exeter pee wees were
on the losing end of the score
in two games this week.
Wednesday they lost 5-3 to
Strathroy and Saturday they
were thumped 11-2 by St.
Marys.
The locals coached by Jack
Chipchase led 3-2 over
Strathroy after two periods of
play, but, that was the extent
of their scoring for the night.
Captain Jonathan O'Connor
notched the first Exeter goal
in the initial period on a pass
from Jeff Rowe and in the se-
cond he. scored on an
unassisted dash.
The other Exeter score was
fired by Jeff Dalrymple on a
pass from Doug Clark.
In the 11-2 loss to St. Marys,
Exeter didn't hit the
scoreboard until the halfway
mark of the second period

and scored on an unassisted
effort to take care of the Ex-
eter game scoring.
Atoms Win
The Exeter Atoms defeated
Strathroy 1-0 in .their only
game in Shamrock league
play this week.
Steve Sillery provided
clutch goal -tending holding
the strong Strathroy squad at
bay as he stopped 20 shots.
Harlen Tinney provided the
only scoring of the game
when he flipped in a rebound
early in the third period. Alan
Bloomaert took a pass out
from the corner from Todd
McCann and fired a shot from
the point that was stopped but
Tinney picked off the rebound
and fired it home.
The local squad ran their
record to three -one with the
win but face a tough schedule
this week with back to back
games in Strathroy, Saturday
and at home against St.
Marys, Sunday.

Packedm for clown own team
Students and visitors pack-
ed the high school gym,
Wednesday to watch the an-
tics of the Harlem Crowns, a
basketball team not unlike the
famous Harlem
Globetrotters.
The six member all -black
American team played home
team comprised of members
from the boys' and girls'
basketball teams and coach
Terry O'Rourke.
The Crowns bewildered the
high school team with quick
pass..3 and moves and
unsportsmanlike behaviour.
The jokes didn't stop at the
playersasthe Harlem Crowns
climbed E.ito the stands to em-
barrass certain people in the
audience and ridiculed phys.
ed teachers Pat Rowe and
Ron Bogart who were attemp-
ting to officiate.
The fun -loving Crowns were
unperturbed as half the crowd
felt they should leave to catch
their bus, before the game
was over.
