Great wins
This weekend was a great one for athletic teams
at South Huron District High School as two WOSSA
championships were won.
Friday afternoo, the school's senior girls won the
Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association cross
country team championship and Saturday afternoon on
their home field the South Huron team won the WOSSA
girls field hockey title.
Both teams will nowadvanceto all -Ontario playoffs.
The cross country runners will be in North Toronto
Saturday competing against the best in the balance of
the province and the field hockey girls will be at
Bayview Secondary School in Thornhill for a similar
championship attempt.
Coaches of both clubs are confident their charges
will perform well in provincial competition.
Joe Fulop of the cross country team thinks his team
has an excellent chance of finishing in the top 10. He
feels this year's group of runners is better than the team
which finished seventh in 1980.
At the field hockey level, coach Jim Workman is
just as optimistic. He said after Saturday's WOSSA win,
"We should reach the semi-finals at least. This is the
strongest team we have ever had and they should im-
prove on their sixth place finish of a year ago."
Stamina and endurance will be a big factor for
teams competing in the Toronto area, Saturday

the field hockey team could play as many as three
long games in one day.
Coach Workman will be allowed only two substitu-
tions according to OFSSA rules so endurance as well
as playing skills will be an important factor.
Catherine Patterson is a member of both teams and
she is hoping to be able to participate in each event. She
will be a busy and tired girl when it's all over.
Congratulations again to cross country coaches Joe
Fulop and Dave McClure and field hockey coach Jim
Workman and their teams for a great effort. Both teams

Do you know baseball,,?
The baseball season is over, but, we would like to
pass on a baseball trivia question which was posted -to
us this week by one of the more astute senior ball fans
in the area: ,
How can a team at.bat come up with three triples
and three singles in one inning without scoring a run?
We were able t t come up with the answer with
few minutes of deliberation -and will pass the answer
along next week. •
