Trustees voted Monday to get in step with comments by Education Minister Bette Stephenson last month that a trustee pay increases be limited to five percent despite having set increases for their successors of 6.6 percent, 6.25 percent and 5.9 percent over the next three years before the restraint program was announced. There was no comment on the action 'as the board unanimously approved a five- percent.increase for each of the next three years,.effec- tively rescindiogincreasesap- proved in September. Currently, trustees earn 5375 a month and instead of being paid $400 in 1982-83, $425 in 1983-84 and $450 in 1984-85 as previously planned, they will earn $393.75, 5413.44, and $434.10. As well, the board vice- chairman now earning $400 might have anticipated 5550 a month by 1984-85 but instead will receive 5463.05. The board's chairman now makes $560 and the earlier scale of $700 for 1984-85 has been cut to ,$648.27. Stamp price to be hiked Canada Post Corporation has announced that increases in the basic Canadian letter rate will be limited to two cents, in line with the govern- ment's six percent gage and price restraint program. ' Under the rate proposals, which have been reviewed -and accepted as within the guidelines by the Sub- committee of Cabinet on Ad- ministered Prices, the domestic letter rate would be 32 cents effective February 15. All othe rates and service fees would increase by six percent on January 15. In applying the six percent rule, the Corporation has followed the principle of roun- ding off increases to the nearest cent.
