Proceeds from the event will go to the South Huron and District Association for the Mentally Handicapped. Shortly after the formation of the club, some members who played amusical instru- ment came together to form small bands to enliven the celebrations by marching Prince Carnival and his coun- cil of 11 Jesters into the dance hall; by filling in when the professional band hired has an intermission: and by ac- companying special floor shows performed by other members of the.club. Gradually, more musicians joined the band to bring" the present strength to 10 players, ,who are enthusiastically sup- ported by Wooden Shoe Dancers. The music is ar- ranged especially for the band, mak ll ig it an" unique organization among the ethnic clubs in Canada. The purpose of The Dykehoppers is to make fun and to help other service clubs with their celebrations as well as adding a light touch to charitatlle. fund raising or occasions. The music is a cross cut of the band's . repertoire -- opening with The Dykehop- pers marching into the dance hall and finishing with the Dykehoppers Polonaise (Dutch Grand March) which gets even the non -dancing au- dience onto the dance floor. The Dykehoppers are not all Dutch descent but are Canadian and many other na- tionalities and are from all walks of life. SUMMERS Granton They Granton W.I. met at the home of Mrs. Percy Hodgins on -Tuesday. Mrs. Clarence Lewis presided and read a poem entitled"Happy Harvestime' . This was followed by a report on the success of the plowing match food booth. The program topic was "Resolutions" conveners were Mrs. Norman Riddell and Mrs. Stan Malcolm. Two resolutions were brought up. and read by Mrs. Riddell. One had to do with garbage disposal sites and the other the advantages of smoke detectors. Both were discuss- ed, voted on and sustained. Both will be dealt with'at he area convention held in St. Marys Oct. 27-28. Mrs. Malcolm conducted a quiz on "Becoming a good listener". Mrs. Riddell had some interesting things to say about salamanders. She also read an article from Seasons magazine about these little creatures and also gave an account of the damage acid rain was causing in Canada, most of it being brought over from the U.S.A., with the prevailing winds. The program concluded ,with a quiz on Provincial flower emblems. Granton 441 club news Rotating Sec. Julie McRobert The first meeting of the Granton 4-H Club "4-H Bread Winners" was held at the home of leader Mrs. Dennis St. Dennis on Saturday. Roll call -was "Name a bread that you would like to learn how to bake". Seven members were present, they were, Sherri Davidson, Heidi Hayden, Christine Jones, Laura Scott, Roseanne St. Dennis, Natalie Thompson vice president and Julie McRobert president. Following the business the girls made pizza dough. There were various steps in making the dough, so they all pitched in and helped. After the final step was done, which was kneading, they let the dough rise for an hour and went on with the meeting. The members made two pizzas which were cooked just in time for lunch. C.G.I.T. and Explorer news" The Granton C.G.I.T. met at the United Church on , Wednesday. The members worked at finishing their craft articles for the bazaar, and had sort of a fun night work- ing together. The Granton Explorers met at the United Church on Mon- day. Keith Alexander Yuill, RR 1 Kirkton, was assessed a fine of $500 for driving a motor vehicle without insurance and a further $250 penalty for driving ,) while under suspension. Ile was assessed the fines by Justice of the Peace Douglas W. Wedlake. Both were the minimum and Yuill. was given seven months in, which to pay. He was also given a further licence suspension of six months, to run consecutive to any other current suspension. Both charges were laid on October 2 after he was stop- ped by police for driving; without headlights when it was dark. In the only other case, Jody G. Durand, RR 2 Zurich, was fined 8128 upon appearing 'for sentence on a charge of careless driving. The charge was laid after the accused struck a hydro pole on August 1. Bruce Pierce was in charge of the worship and entitled his sermon "Praying as Jesus Prayed". Prayer is not a tool that was given to us, to ask God to take away things that are had,,and it is not the answer to turn un- to God when we want something. If you are going to pray, said the minister, it is important that you believe and have faith in the one that you are praying to. C.G.I.T. member Josie Anderson read. the first scripture lesson from I Corr. 12,:1-11. At St. Thomas Anglican Church, the Rev. Frank Braley of Stratford was in charge of the service. The scripture lessons were read Team .wins first tests This year's Reach for the Top team won their first two games of the season which will extend into the winter months. Even with only one member returning from last year's second place team, South Huron had 100 point leads in both games. In the first round Exeter defeated Wiarton 250-150. The second game, which was pretaped the same night in Wingham's CKNX' studio, saw Meaford eliminated by South Huron 270-170. The Wiarton game should be televised January 29 and April 2 will be the. date of the Meaford game. Dave Creery, a grade 13 student, is the only returnee from last year's team. Mike Maier another graduating student is also a member of the Reach for the Top team. Grade 11 students Kathy- Schade and Matt Connon make up the rest of the team. Coach Bill Johnston feels that the team "has a good chance for the semi-finals." The team's next game will be against .Arthur sometime in February. United Church bazaar A very successful bazaar was held in the Mason's hall with tea being served across the street at the United Church. Booths were manned by the four U.C.W.
