October 27,1982 Junior Gagers defeated twice The junior girls' basketball team lost two games last week as they enter the last part of the season. At Wingham pn Monday South Huron Laced a very strong Madill team. Irene Brand managed 15 points to make the score 49-19 for Wingham. The juniors hosted a team more at their level. but were HARLEM CROWNS The. Harlem Crowns, an outshott from the Harlem Globetrotters are at the high ., school gymnasium this after- noon. At 2:00 p.m. the American team will play the high school staff. Admission is $2 and everyone is welcome. still defeated by Clinton 33-25. The girls were somewhat sluggish in getting started. However, in the third quartet they outscored Clinton 13-4. South Huron had more shots than Clinton but fewer went in. Monday Exeter hosted St. Marys and tomorrow the team travels to Seaforth. The last game of the regular season will be Monday at Stratford Central. The Huron -Perth playoffs start , after for the top six teams. This is increased from past years when only four teams advanced. However the increase won't be enough to include South Huron's juniors with their current one and six record. Mohawks start Thursday night The 1982-83 season of the Exeter Mohawks in the South Huron hockey league opens their season at home tomor- row night. Thursday against the COAT Saints. game time 8:30. Friday night the Mohawks travel to Embro to play Brooksdale. who play out of. the North Oxford League, in interlocking play between the two leagues. Some of the new faces in the revamped lineup include Barry Baynham,' Brian Mercer. SH footballers lose to Goderich The two South Huron District High School football teams dropped a Huron -Perth Conference doubleheader to the Goderich Vikings, 'Thurs- day afternoon. In much less then ideal weather conditions the junior Panthers lost by a score of 14-1 and the seniors were on the short end of a 14-6 count. Semi-final conference playoffs will be played tomor- row, Thursday. The SH juniors travel to Listowel to meet the Lords and the seniors will be in Goderich for a return engagement with the Vikings. Despite the seniors loss to Goderich, South Huron coach Ron Bogart said his team turned in their best offensive game of the season. Bogart continued, "I think. we outplayed them. We didn't get any breaks. But, I guess you have to make these 'yourself. Every drive we got going, we either fumbled or had a pass intercepted:" The coach added. "We had some desire, Jamie Chaffe and Dave Hayter ran very well. defensively we also played well. They never got any drives going, we gave them the ball and they scored." The Vikings scored all of their points on two touchdowns in the second quarter. The first came as the result of a fumble by Chris Van Gerwen on a bad snap as he tried to get a kick away. The second Goderich score came Seaforth beats Molting Hawks The Exeter Molting Hawks dropped their first game of the season in oldtimers hockey Monday as they were defeated 9-3 b%' the Seaforth Beavers. Keith Ahrens scored all three goals for the Molting Hawks. The first came on a pass from Jim Russell, the se- cond on a three-way passing .combination with Russell and Bob Jones and the third on an unassisted effort. George Coveney scored two goals for Seaforth while singles were added by Bill Weber, Bob Buetenmiller, Paul Rau, Ed Dolmage, Don Vipond, Dick Bedard and Ken Doig. after a South Huron fumble. Dave Hayter scored the on- ly South Huron touchdown on a two yard run in the third period. The convert was missed. Jamie Chaffe led the Pan- thers ground game with 126 yards on 15 -carries_ The longest was 50 yards. Dave Hayter was close behind with 106 yards on 19 cracks at the line. In total yardage, South Huron edged the Vikings 286 yards to 253 while each club picked up 12 first drowns.
