[zehisjhne markets... of fine foods Pogo 18 Times-Advocgte, October 20,1982 ,2.. Church anniversary at Thames Road ey MIIIe. WILLIAM ROHDE Thames Rood The fall anniversary ser- vice was held Sunday morn- ing with a fair attendance. Rev. Robert Matheson was in charge of the service. Before the service com- menced there was an in- strumental prelude with Agnes Bray on the organ and Bill and Rhoda Rohde on the violin and piano. The Craig -Ellen Singers, Goderich sang several numbers which were much enjoyed. Rev. Matheson told the children's story entitled "What's In a Building". The sermon was entitled "Jubilation". The Israelites call- ed a"Jubileeama tobe held every fiftieth year. It is highly unlikely the concept was ever into use but its intent was to forgive sins of the past, loans and other debts. It was supposed to do away with poverty in society. All people would, at long last, not only be equal in God's view, but also be equal in the sight of the world. Leviticus 25:8-17 and 25-28 really has the same kind of idea as Phut expresses in Romans 8:12-17. A .Jubilee Year would be a time when people would really be to live thewillof God full time. Paul tells us to live more according to the spirit than the flesh. In terms of an Anniversary Service we are reminded of the past. Surely there are ex- amples of people we 'remember who have been partieulakly repentent for s mistakes and sins they have committed whe were able to H say they were sorry. Surely there have been examples we can think of as well of people w who have been able to forgive. When our ancestors came to this land while it was virgin territory they often built their place of worship in the centre of the community. This was to communicate they felt God was at the centre of their lives. Certainly forgiving and penitent people as we are all called to be would be people who have the will of God at heart or at the centre of their lives. Among some of those atten- ding the service and spending the day with friends and relatives were: Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Hern, Zion with Mr. and Mrs. Reg Hodgert.
