I want to see the movie E.T.
I really do. But I think some
kind of extra-terrestial forces
are working against me.
Not that it's really
necessary to see E.T.
anymore. I know exactly how
the plot progresses because
all my friends have been feel-
ing sorry for me, and they
give me a play-by-play of the
action. Ever since the movie
opened early this summer, I
have heard complete descrip-
tions of the story, which
always end with the order
"You must go see it". Even
my young niece'Lydia gave
me all the details when she
visited here in August. Lydia
lives in Nassau in the
Bahamas, and she had even
seen E.T. there. You see, I
had been counting on taking
her to see it during her visit
here, but like everyone else,
she had already taken it in.
' Even the run-down old
theatre in Nassau was up with
the times when it came to a
popular movie like E.T.
My husband, Victor had
heard a lot about E.T., too,
' and finally we set off for
London tc see it. We arrived at
the theatre to find a three
block Line-up, and show time
still over an hour away. We
knew we wouldn't get in that
night.

By Mary Alderson
We went home, certain we
would see E.T. on our next
trip to London. Unfortunately,
a few weeks later, we found
even longer lineups with more
waiting time than ever.'Stan-
ding in line without even hav-
ing a sure thing at the end of
the queue is not our idea of a
good time.
On our next trip to see E.T.
we decided to try for the ear-
ly show. We drove to London
in the early afternoon and
planned to go out for dinner
-first. After our meal, we
headed across town to the
theatre.
As we neared the theatre,
neither of us were feeling
very well: We decided to skip
the movie and head home. We
felt. miserable, and thought
we were coming down with
some kind of 'flu.
However, it was later deter-
mined that it wasn't flu but
food poisoning. Since this isn't
a restaurant critique, I won't
mention the name of that par-
ticular eating establishment.
But if you want to know where
not to dine, we can certainly
tell you.
After that disaster, we
shelved our plans to see E.T.
for awhile. Eventually I notic-
ed that E.T. was arriving at
the Kineto Theatre in Forest.
The Kineto, for you readers
who didn't get to see E.T.
there either, is a great little
theatre which is being kept.
alive in Forest by a very
dedicated Kiwanis Club. The
theatre has undergone exten-
siverenovations and Kiwanis
members hold numerous fund
raisers to keep it on its feet.
New movies are brought in
each weekend.
Anyway, I was very excited
when E.T. arrived in Forest.
You see, the old Kineto holds
a special place in my heart. It
was nearly 13 years ago that
Victor and I had our first date
there. My excellent memory
may not impress Victor
much, but we saw
"Blackbeard's Ghost" - a
Walt . Disney classic - in
December of 1969.
Well, the night we went to
see E.T. 1 guess no one was in-
terested in my sentimental at-
tachments to the Kineto,
because they didn't offer to let
us in. The scene was the same
as we had in London - long
lineups with ushers turning
those at the end away.
And although turning
crowds away was something
unusual for the Kineto, and
very pleasing to the Kiwanis
club, it didn't make us too
happy.
E.T. was held over an extra
day in Forest, and even then
we weren't able to see it.
Oh, well I've heard the plot
a dozen or more times, now.
I've seen pictures on
everything from dinner trays
in the stores to patterns for
making the stuffed E.T. doll.
Maybe I'll catch it when it
comes on television.
Or maybe extra-terrestial
just don't want me to see it.
It's not work
to walk.
So why not
Walk to work?

Farm market successful
Grand Bend and area
Chamber of Commerce pro-
duced the first Farmers
Market in the village, Satur-
day. Produce, crafts and
tables of flea market items
lined the streets. A number of
stalls were sold out by noon.
It was an easy, friendly at-
mosphere in the village with
just enough traffic to make it
interesting. The Womens' In-
stitute bake tables were
crowded with customers as
long as the goodies lasted.
An enterprising trio of
youngsters sold two boxes of
turnips which had been
donated and apples and pears
.picked by their mothers to
raise money for the Parkhill
skating club.
. A prize donated by the Book
Store was given to the Tender
Spot for the most attractive
display. The front of the store
was decorated with corn
stalks. Dave Sheppard had
coffee and cake for those with
tables close to the Young
Classic Salon.
