Back, left, Stefanie Jones and Mike Moffatt McCurdy and Lori Harburn, Hensall Front Lori' Juvonilo Juvenile hockey returned to Exeter, Sunday, after an absence of several years and the locals made an auspicious debut when they dumped , Lucan 6-0 in an exhibition contest. The team will compete in a 22 -game schedule with the other 12 juvenile squads in the Shamrock league. Home games will be at the rec cen- tre on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. It is expected they'll play their first league encounter this Saturday. In the exhibition test, the locals took a 1-0 lead in the first when Eric Tadgell con- verted a pass from Steve Paquette, McCurdy; Larry Miller, Usborne and Corrinne Price and Steve DuBarry, Batten. Brian Blackburn assisted on the first while At- thill and Dean Watt helped out on the other. Kirktonboys beat Formosa for title. After dropping the first game to Desboro, they came back to win the next three games to take the series three games- to one. This victory put them in the finals against an excellent team from Formosa. Kirkton was lucky enough to win the first game by a 4 - 3 score. Formosa won the next two games, 3.0and 3-2. Kirkton won the fourth 4 4 A x game by a 1- 0 score to set the stage for the fifth and deciding game. After allowing Formosa to tie the score in the top of the sixth, Kirkton managed to score one run in the bottom and hang on for a 3 - 2 victory. ' This was an excellent series with both teams playing outstanding ball. After a long season the Kirkton bantam boys pall team finally reached the top. The boys began by defeating St. Paula two games to nothing in the first series, and defeating Ripley two games to nothing in the second round. Irish optimistic of a good .year The Lucan Irish started defence of their 1981-82 OHA Junior "D" championship on their home rink last night, Wednesday against Thedford. The Irish under the direc- tion of new coach Walt Parkinson will be at the South Huron Rec Centre Friday night to take on the Exeter Hawks. Irish manager Bob Taylor says he is optimistic about another championship. He added, "We should have a good shot at it. Horse enthusiasts busy at sales Schedule for Molting Hawks The schedule for the balance of the month of Oc- tober for the Exeter Molting Hawks, competing in the Western Ontario Oldtimers hockey league has been released. • The Exeter club in opera- tion for the first year will be in Dorchester Saturday night at 6 p.rfi. to take on CFR London. Monday, October 18 they will be at home at 9:30 p.m. at the South Huron Rec Centre to meet East London and the following Monday, October 25 their opposition on Exeter ice will be Seaforth. Their other two away games are October 23 in Bel- mont against Labatt'S and October 30 in Dorchester with CFB London supplying the opposition. Participation in the oldtimers league is restricted to players at least 35 years of age. Area standardbred horse owners and breeders were quite prominent in the recent select yearling and Canadian Classic sales held in Toronto. On the purchasing end, Bob Hamather of Zurich parted with $47,000 for Constantly, a bay filly by Jade Prince - Constance Hanover and was the highest price for any filly at the sales. Jean Keller, Exeter, paid $25,000 for Smokays Tartan, a brown Smog colt; Arnold Lindenfield, aloe -of Exeter - purchased Trave't-N Man, a Kawartha Sliper - Francis Bye Bye brown colt for $10,000 and Gwen Rader, Grand Bend paid $20,000 for Making Headway, a! brown colt by Jonquil Hanover -J.R. Cathy. Ken Hardy of Lucan bought Ken Dee Countess a High Ideal fillyfor$13,000 and Den- nis Morrissey of London and formerly of Crediton parted with $25,000 for Twin B Jet. Wayne Horner, formerly of Brucefield and now operating out of St. Marys was very ac- tive at the sales. He purchas- ed Spring Dream, Jackies Teddy, Canadian Tammy, Duke and Beverly Seelster. Gordon Pullman of Seaforth paid $10,000 for a fil- ly Some Linda Pull. Yearlings from Seelster Farms at Lucan brought good prices 'and are headed for stables throughout Eastern Canada. Paul Daeres who has pur- chased Seelster yearlings for the last five years bought Or- son Seelster for $7,500 and Hector Clouthier of Pem- Hully Gully 0 t 0 I 0 I G broke took Keith Seelster for $13,000. Reg Gassien, a regular trainer -driver on the Jockey Club circuit bought Edwin Seelster for $11,000 and another veteran horseman Don Corbett of London paid $9,000 for Sara Seelster. Other yearlings from the Lucan area farm sold were Collette Seelster going to Craig Wilson of Scarborough for 68,200; Sheldon Seelster to Ernst Becker, also of Scar- borough foc$10,500 and Steve Seelster to the Rusty Cart Stable of Windsor for $6,200. The fifth highest price for a trotting filly was $17,000 paid to Seelster Farms by John Kopas for Amanda Seelster. This filly is by Surge Hanover-Armbro Valerie. Tuesday during lunch South Huron students were able to watch a demonstration of Martial Arts. Mr. Straughan had invited his instructor, Paul Chiao to explain Martial Arts and exhibit his board breaking ability. Calling for volunteers from the students Chiao did flying leaps and broke boards behind a student's head. Another guest Michael Eisenstein, normally a Lon- don lawyer, demonstrated some basic Martial Arts moves. He ' and Jim Straughan taught a number of self-defense moves including how to defend yourself from attacker with a weapon. Paul Chiao stressed the value of Martial Arts as a developer of self-discipline and control.
