delegates sriticize Presbytery cburches
were criticized by
by delegates at Sebringville
last week. It was the first
meeting of the United Church
court under its new chair-
man, Rev.. Norman Gibson,
Central, Stratford.
The first speaker said
delegates take time out to at-
tend the various courts but
are not given the opportunity
to relay their findings to the
local congregations. Another
delegate indicated that tins
led to misunderstandings of
the church's programs. He
suggested that ministers
should not be so possessive of
their pulpits that time is not
found to allow reports to the
local people.
The discussion was a result
of a special section on the
agenda to allow lay delegates
to express their views. The
chairman found it necessary
to admonish the clergy for
entering the debate too
frequently.
The inductions of four new
ministers to Huron -Perth
were announced by secretary.

Keynote speaker Dr. Bayne
Logan from the University of
Ottawa defined the five
characteristics of an effective
teacher: understanding,
trust. openness, positive
regard for others and uncon-
ditional acceptance. As he
spoke, many in his audience
recalled a former teacher
they still fondly remembered
as one who had personified
those traits.
"He said what i really felt.
and said it much better than
I could". Exeter principal
Jim Chapman commented
afterward.
Chapman explained that
