AGRIPRESS EXPANSION CAN'T BE SQUASHED!
HENSALL (Special to the Times -
Advocate) — From"beginnings typical for
Canadian advertising agencies, Agripress
Canada Ltd. has grown to become a rari-
ty among agencies in North America.
In 1970, the Bayley brothers, Julian and
Adrian, started Agripress in a Toronto of-
fice building on the strength of their ex-
perience with a similar company in
England. ,
During the summer of 1971, the young
company moved to a storefront in Hen-
sall. "Why Hensall?" is probably the most
commonly asked question of Agripress
employees. There are many ways to ra-
tionalize it, but the simple truth is that
Julian Bayley found a house he liked . just
a mile from town, and he was never a fan
of the city anyhow (Adrian Bayley now
lives in the house while Julian has con-
verted a cottage clinging to the Lake
Huron cliffs near Bayfield).
After a couple of years of steady growth,
the company moved to a remodelled
home on King Street in Hensall which serv-
ed for about five years while the old Hen-
sall Co-op Feed Mill was remodelled into
modern office space.
The most recent expansion began last
year and, with the completion of construc-
tion, has resulted in a building 450 feet
long and 50 feet wide.
The company has grown from a staff of
four in 1970 to 38 full-time employees in
1982. Agripress also provides steady part-
time
arttime employment for up to 20 local peo-
ple and a dozen free-lance journalists,
copywriters and photographers across
Canada.
While all aspects of agricultural adver-
tising remain at the core of Agripress' suc-
cess, the expansion has resulted in an in-
credible diversification. In addition to the
creative, copy, production, media buying
and marketing services offered by most
agencies, Agripress also provides direct
mail services, warehousing and fulfillment
services, printing services, North America's
most complete library of agricultural
photography, seminar planning and
management, audio-visual production,
and most recently a squash and racquet-
ball facility which will be open to the local
community.
From modest beginnings, billing about
$80,000 in the first year, Agripress has
grown to become Canada's largest
agricultural advertising agency by far. In
fact, billings for 1982 are expected to ex-
-ceed five million dollars.
The photographs on the following pages
shows small sampling of the activities and
facilities which make, Agripress a pro-
gressive, thriving company, proud to be
part of the community.

11 It certainly has changed since
its days as part of the Hensall
District Co-op but this building
is now home to the executive,
creative and production offices
of Agripress Canada Ltd.. A two-
year renovation program con-
verted the feed mill into efficient
facilities.
