Centralia women meet

Centralia
Centralia U.C.W. met in the
school room of the church
September 9 with 16 ladies
and four gentlemen present.
Audrey McFalls, Verda
Lightfoot and Glena Tripp
were in charge of program.
Audrey McFalls welcomed all
present and Verda Lightfoot
read poem, "The World is
Mine." Audrey gave the
prayer and read the Scripture
and read poem.
Glena Tripp showed pic-
tures of the Orient trip that
she was on this summer. They
were enjoyed by all.
A poem "Just for today"
was given by Verda. Glena
Tripp conducted the business.
Minutes were read,
Treasurers report given and
a thank you card from
Howard and Grace Pym.
It was decided to have the
Christmas Bazaar, December
4. Also the Regional to be held
at Thames Road Church, Oc-
tober 5.
The UCW will' serve at a
25th wedding anniversary in
November. The meeting dos-
ed with the Mizpah Benedic-
tion. A delicious lunch was
served by the committee in
charge.
Anyone with news for the
paper is asked to call

dent is back on the job again.
Thanks to my neighbpur for
writing the news while I was
on vacation.
Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Vogan,
Listowel and Mrs. Clara Cun-
nington attended the funeral
of their cousin Miss Mabel
Refoir in Tavistock Tuesday.
Mr. & Mrs./Dave Rogers,
Exeter and Mr. & Mrs. Sil
Tomadini, Harriston visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Essery, Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. • Don
McGregor, Exeter and their
daughter Mrs. Rob Emms
and Jonathan of Debolt,
Alberta were dinner guests
with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer
Powe, recently.
Tom and Mary Kooy
returned home on the
weekend following a three
week tour to the east oast,
Prince Edward Island and
Newfoundland. Enroute they
were guests with Mr. and
Mrs. Ray Regular at their.
home in. Antigonish, Nova
Scotia.
The Regulars were former
residents of the village. When
on P.E.I. Tom spent a day
with an old school chum who
he has not seen or heard from
for 57 years. They were
neighbours in Holland. The
weather was beautiful all the
way with only an odd shower.

WI conduct historical session
Crditon groins resume fall

The Crediton Womens In-
stitute hosted the Huron
County Historical meeting at
the Town Hall on Wednesday
evening. The meeting was
opened by the Institute Presi-
dent Mrs. Dave Cottle with
words of welcome, followed
by the singing of the Ode and
the Mary Stewart Collect.
Huron County Historical
Society president Mr. Hogan
presided over the business
meeting and turned the
meeting over to Mrs. Bruce
Shapton who chaired the
entertainment portion. Mrs.
Earl Neil gave the history of
flax, according to area
residents - who worked with
the grain. .
Mrs. Russell King assisted
her with a display of various
tools and by products of the
flax industry. 1873 saw the
first crop of flax in the
Crediton area, Zurich being
the center of the flax growing
industry.
Mrs. Shapton posed the
question as to how many flax
seeds were contained in 1 lb.
of flax. The answer, between
65,000 to 120,000 seeds. Maggie
Clark, Don Dinney and Gerry
Gaiser entertained with some
toe tapping music.
Mrs. Ward Fritz gave a
biography of her grandfather,
Conservative Representative,
Henry Eilber.
Alma Godbolt gave a
biography of Liberal
Representative, Valentine
Ratz.
Dave McClure gave a very
detailed life story of Thomas
Greenway. A man born in the
Crediton area who im-
migrated to Manitoba and
became a leader in the In-
dependent Party.
Mrs. Lloyd Roeszler, Mrs.
Ruth Miller and Mrs. Gloria
Martin dressed as the three
parliamentarians, sang two
numbers in harmony. Mrs.
Cliff Kenney thanked all those
who participated in the
meeting, and those who
brought things "made from
flax.
Mrs. Jean Neil and Mrs.
Jean Haist as well as Mrs.
Shapton had a large display of
the various types of flax and
its products arranged around
the room.
Lunch was served by the
East group. After lunch, the
W.I. ladies held a short
