" '227 Main St. North Exeter GB By Annie Morenz Scott Flear and Monique Van Alphen were married September 4. at Brescia Col - Beach patrol rescue many Grand Bend Beach Patrol finished duties on the main and south beach Monday this week. Visitors to the beach Sunday pulled an unidentified man from the water. He was taken to South Huron Hospital for observation. Chief life guard, Bruce Helm reported that the five - man team executed 20 rescues this summer. Besides Helm, members were Jess Fernier, Erin Bates, Danny Elbergen and George Baran. Ball season ends with party Grand Bend and area Op- timists ended the ball season for t -ball players and squirts with a picnic at Pinery Park, Saturday. Parents and kids played dodge ball, volleyball and there was a treasure hunt and lots of food. They will be holding registration for hockey at the Legion Hall Friday, September 24 from seven to nine p.m. and the following Saturday (September 25) from 12 to 2 p.m. for any children interested in playing in the Parkhill league. They will have their own Optimist sweaters donated by 15 Grand Bend sponsors. All children interested will be able to play hockey. Okay district work. project The Pinery Provincial Park will work with Grand Bend council to employ about 12 unemployed persons this winter. The unique program was brought to council Tues- day night by assistant park superintendent Keith Argent. The federal government will subsidize the unemploy- ment cheques and add pen- sion payments. The provin- cial government will add more subsidy and pay OHIP for the workers. Grand Bend will find the workers and the projects will be organized by. the park. Argent said that special - money in form of a grant will come from the provinces BILD program. Work pro- jects will be special projects not regularity undertaken by the park employees. Workers required will include one clerical person, a superinten- dent and 10 others for mostly outdoor work. He said they plan to begin October first and work for about 14 weeks (until the end of January.) Applicants must be currently receiving unemployment compensation. The Stattons, their friend Jean Welch, of London, Ella Desjardine, Shipka, visited Sunday with Ttedeman. History was made last week at Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal when George Zekfeld of Toronto became the first Canadian in North America to receive a transfusionol artificial blood. Mr. Zekfeld is a brother-in- law of Jean Dykstra, of Southcott Pines. and Jessie Colonials suffer initial loop loss The Grand Bend Colonials lost their first game of the regular schedule in the Lon- don and district second divi- sion Sunday as they were beaten 4-1 by Woodstock. Tony Mennen was the only goal scorer for the Colonials who will be back in action Sunday at 6 p.m. at Chelsea Green Park in London with the Yugoslav team supplying the opposition. In Ausable league play, the Grand Bend "B" club lost 6-1 to Taxandria with Bill Men- nen the only marksman. Their at 4 next p.m. on play is their' Sunday field home when they play host to West Williams. In tournament play Satur- day, the Grand Bend atoms defeated the Lucan II team 4-1 and lost 2-1 to Eiceter in the semi-finals. David O'Connor and Colin Kobe each scored two goals in the victory and O'Connor was the lone goal getter in the loss. The mosquitos suffered the same fate in tournament play. They beat Arva 3-0 and lost 2-1 to Taxandria.
