Times-Advocate, 1982-09-09, Page 7Pore 6 Times -Advocate. September 9,1982 Buzzing sounds, Last week we thought about some of Nature's creatures that buzz. The common housefly Seemed pesky but hariol S. But what about the buzzing creatures that carry a sting or bite along with their buzz' How many times this sum- mer were you chased out of your garden by a swarm of malicious little black flies that would take a chunk of your skin for ransom if they could? Ladies, I've heard those kind of vampires like hair spray. I never use hair spray but they don't seem to notice. They come after me, anyway. I've also been told that bees will not sting you, unless you provoke them. Does anyone know how to persuade a bee to stop buzzing around your head without provoking him' MR. AND MRS. PATRICK JOYNT Heather Wein and Patrick Joynt were united in mar- riage at Exeter United Church on August 21 with Rev. James Forsythe officiating. Donna Simmie was the maid of honour and bridesmaids were Marlyn Wein and Bren- no Wein. John Joynt was the best man and guests were ushered by Randy Gilfillan and Malcolm Hamilton. Ann- marie Hoffman was the soloist and Robert Cameron was organist. The couple is now residing in Port Elgin. Many a hasty retreat has been made indoors just to escape a probably innocent but nevertheless menacing creature that has a buzz. One of the tiniest flying wonders, that can shorten an evening's relaxation in the backyard, is the mosquito. Therefore, if you hear a mosquito buzzing, you have nothing to worry about. It's when you don't hear anything that you should worry. And, if you bear a mosquito buzzing and the buzzing suddenly stops, you can always watch. One of the most perplexing ironies has probably been ex- perienced by everyone at some time or another. You crawl into bed after a hard day's work. You're ex- hausted. You need a good night's sleep. Your muscles begin to. relax. Your mind stops chur- By Elaine Townshend Thames Road youth off to colleges "There's a mosquito an thy room! And be's going to bite me to bits! And in the morn- ing I'll be so itchy I'll go crazy.!,, You could get up, turn on, the light and look for him, but common sense tells you that you'll never find him. So, you just lie in bed and the only thing you can think about is how itchy you're going to be in the morins. Finally the buzzing stops. You tell yourself he's gone away, and you can go to sleep now. You begin the relaxing procedure again. It almost works, but then you begin to itch. You spend the whole night drifting between drowsiness and itchiness. You know most of the itches are imaginary, but your mind just won't buy it. You can chalk up another sleepless night to one of Nature's creatures that makes a buzzing sound. No matter how old or young we are we have to make deci- sions which will have some ef- fect on our lives. There are results of decisions which we need to realize we have brought on ourselves.
