Combined service for United Churches
• • •
The final Lucan-
Clandeboye combined service
was held Sunday in the
former church with John and
Stewart Park welcoming
members and friends. •
Wesley Stanley was in
charge of the service and
taught several new scriptural
choruses which were tied in-
to the "object"lesson sermon
on John 15.
Using a natural grape vine
branch Wes pointed out that
it was the symbol of the na-
tion of Israel and the country
was described as vineyard.
He said we must attach
ourselves, through faith, to
the True Vine, Jesus Christ,
and just as the gardener sup-
plies the needs of the natural
vine, so God supplies our
needs.
On a grape vine only new
growth produces fruit, so we
must keep growing in our
faith, and as grapes provide
grape seeds, so, in the
spiritual sense, a Christian
plants the seed of Christ in
another's heart.
We receive our strength
and nourishment from God,
the true vine. Apart from Him
we will wither and die
spiritually, just as a branch
broken from the vine will
wither and die. If we abide in
Him we will glorify our
Father by bearing much fruit
for Him.
Flowers in the sanctuary
were from the funeral of the
late Pearl Shoebottom and
the love and prayers of the
congregation were extended
to her family.
Next Sunday the service
will revert to 11:15, with Rev.
Keith Brown in charge.
The Community Bible

Revival Centre news
Sunday morning Bruce
Shaw read Mark 11:24 and
James 1:13-17 before leading
in prayer, and Rev. C.J.
Williams spoke from 1 Sam
17:1-11. Usually our enemies
frighten us with their ap-
pearance, as Goliath the giant
had terrified the Israelites.
When a Goliath sized trou-
ble comes on us, we cannot
fight alone. Only God's anoin-
ting gives us the victory.
David, the young man newly
anointed to be king over
Israel, with God's help, killed
the giant Goliath. David was
sent to the battle by his father
to visit his brothers.
There was the giant he did
not plan on fighting. Often
Christians never plan on
fighting giant troubles as they
try to serve God. God had
anointed David so he could
kill the giant. God has
anointed Christians so they
can be overcomers in
troubles. David obeyed and
won a victory. God's word
says to do whatever He says,
"By His word we can be
overcomers."
Sunday evening Wayne
Williams led in singing the
chorus "It's No Longer I That
Liveth". Nick Murray
ministered from Job 42:5 say-
ing Job was ready to repent
before God. Seeing the Lord
brings conviction when His
power convinces us we are do-
ing wrong. We love God for
who He is, whether we are be-
ing blessed, or if disaster
comes into our lives.
Many Christians have only
had knowledge of God,
without a definite experience
with God. Exodus 14:13 says
if you "See the Lord, you will
see salvation". The Israelites
looked at the problem, not the
solution.
They had to look to God for
salvation. Of all the religions

Eucharist at
Anglican Church
A celebration of the
Eucharist was held at the
joint service of worship on
Sunday morning at St. James
Anglican Church,
Clandeboye.
Rev. Bruce Pocock, rector,
back from his vacation was in
charge of the service. From
the readings appointed for the
day he took as the theme for
his message "Special
Treatment".
Like Jeremaiah, and like
the mother of the apostles,
James and John, we often
complain to God that we
should have "special treat-
ment" and be immune from
this world's troubles and
trails.
Not so, says the
Whoever chooses to fol ow
Christ is called to the same
self-sacrificing life which He
lived.
Each is called to be a ser-
vant of God, to be obedient to
His Work, and to love one
another. The reward of obe-
dience for a Christian is God's
promise of an abundant life
and an eternal life.
Next Sunday and for the
month of August services will
be held at Holy Trinity in
Lucan at 9:30 a.m.
