HURON FIELD DAY WINNERS — Ten separate schools from across the county took
part in a track and field day at South Huron District High School, Thursday. Winners
of the girl's pentathalon were: (from left) second place, Lee O'Rourke, Mt. Carmel;
first, Colleen Regier, St. Boniface, Zurich; presenting the award is John McCauley
superintendent of education with the Huron Perth separatelchool board; and third
was Cathy Yellow of Goderich.

comes to
Exeter Saveway's winning
streak in the Southwestern
fastball league came to an
end Thursday as league
leading Nairn defeated the
locals 5-2. Exeter had
previously won seven in a
row. Nairn has a 9-1 record.
Nairn's Ernie Schlegel was
the key as he allowed only
three hits while striking out
three and walked none for his
second win this season over
Exeter,
Doug Todd, who had not
•allowed a run since the se-
cond game of the season was
touched for five hits, while he
struck out eight and walked
one with Brian . Hodgins
relieving in the seventh to
allow no hits.
Nairn opened the scoring
with three in the first on three
singles and a couple of errors.
They added two more in the
sixth on a hit and two more
errors.

The Crediton Cowgirls kept
their first place position by Monday night the Cowgirls
only losing to Lieury and came up weak by losing to
defeating Biddulph and Lieury 16-10. They couldn't
Parkhill. seem to get their spirit going
like they are known for.
Leading the Cowgirls at the
plate were Wilma Lagerwerf
with a home run, double and
single and Deb Lord wi(h a
home run and single. Adding
singles were Tammy Regier,
Shelley Weber, Barb Mitchell,
Brenda Wilds, Kate Steeper,

In the game against
Parkhill the Cowgirls never
relinquished their lead after
getting four runs at their first
bat.
Leading Crediton at the
plate were Barb Mitchell with
a home run and single and
Joanne Scott with a triple and
single. Adding singles were
Deb Lord, Teresa Van [they,
Brenda Wilds and Sandy
O'Neill. '
Taking the win for Crediton
was Deb Lord with six
strikeouts.
The Cowgirls play tomor-
row•night in Lucan at 8:30,
play Ailsa Craig at home
Monday night and then to
• Huron Park to play St. Petert
Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. •
The Crediton team were
rained out two times and have
a total of five rained out.
games to play.
Against Biddulph the
Cowgirls played excellent ball
by defeating them 15 to 2. Bid-
dulph didn't score any runs
until the sixth inning.
Leading the Cowgirls at the

run. .

For Exeter, Doug Todd had a
triple and single while Brad
Marsden collected the other
hit.
Exeter was rained out Mon-
day in Lieury when they were
leading the Jets 4-1 in the
fourth inning. •
Next home game is against
the high flying West Corners
team who have recently
defeated Luean Irish twice.
Game time Thursday is 9
p.m. Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Saveway travel to the Lucan
tournament.

Township to
test cement
McGillivray Township
council met on June 7 when
Donald Watson, building in-
spector, attended concerning
the testing of cement. He feels
it is essential to test cement to
ensure that it is of the proper
quality, particularly with
respect to silos. Council
agreed that all concrete
should be subject to testing.
Gravelling of the township
roads has been completed, at
a total cost of $68,235.50. Brine
and calcium chloride for dust
control has been applied to
Township roads for a total
cost of $34,000.00.
Weed spraying is scheduled
between June 16 and 20,
weather permitting. Please
post your properties
accordingly.
Building permits totalling
$75,000.00 were approved. Tile
drain loan applications totall-
ing $184,200.00 were
approved.
A request was received
from Parkhill for $9,522.00 be-
ing McGillivray's share for
fire protection for 1982.
A drain petition was receiv-
ed from Fred Heaman and
Martin Guedens. Tony DeVos
of Spriet & Associates was tip:
pointed as Engineer to
prepare plans, specifications
and rtport.
