Former students gather
in honour of area teacher
On Saturday, June 19,
despite adverse weather con-
ditions several of Miss Irene
Douglas' former pupils
gathered at the home of Min-
nie Noakes for a reunion.
This was the second such
event. Miss Douglas is unable
to attend the reunions due to
reasons of health but the
event is in her honour and
shall be carried on.

Many guests were unable to
attend because of the dense
fog and weather conditions
but those who did attend en-
joyed renewing aquaintances
and memories. It is hoped
that the reunions will become
an annual event.
Miss Douglas, who is a pa-
tient in Chateau Gardens,.
London was a very dedicated
school teacher and a fine per-
son.
Her example of personal
living had great effect on
many over her long years in
the field of education, not on-
ly at high school but in Sun-
day school and her everyday
life.
At the reunion in 1981 a
tribute to Miss Douglas was
composed by Minnie Noakes
and echoed the sentiments of
her former pupils. It was read
and presented to her and a
promise to carry on the reu-
nions in her name accom-
' ponied the messaee.

returned home after
representing Amber Rebekah
Lodge at the 92nd annual ses-
sion of the Rebekah Assembly
of Ontario held on June 14, 15,
16 at the Royal York Hotel in
Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Cud -
more were guests at the wed-
ding of Steven Sims and
Janice Holroyd at St. An-
drew's United Church in
Cambridge, Saturday. Steven
is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Evan Sims. RR 1, Hensall.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Doucette of Victoria, British
Columbia visited the past
week at the manse with Mr.
McDonald. Mr. and Mrs.
Doucette were members of..
Mr. McDonald's congregation
while he was minister in
Regina, Saskatchewan.

Registration Information
All boys and girls ages 5 to 13 interested in participating in o six-week
summer playground program starting July 5 should register THURSDAY,
JUNE 24 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hensall Community Centre.
Cost: $15 per child or $30 per family.
Also the same evening there will be registration for two sessions of swim-
ming lessons at Vanastra Rec. Centre. First session begins July 12 and the
second session follows on July 26.
Fee, which includes bus, will be $25 per child.

Queensway to hold open
house
The staff and residents of
Queensway. Nursing Home
are holding a "Heart' Jam-
boree" and open house or{
Saturday, June 26.. .
It will start with a bike-a-
thon followed by a pro-
gramme and a barbeque sup-
per, to which all are invited.
The high bowler was Neil
Regan.
Visitors with Louise Mit-

Share service with fiddlers
There was a large atten-
dance at the community Gen-
re on Sunday morning when
he United Church shared the
morning worship with the Old
Time Fiddlers and their
amities.
Cecil Pepper greeted the
worshippers and Steven Cor-
bett, Jeff Corbett and Ray
acobi were the ushers. Joyce
Pepper played the piano.

"The Rainbow After The
Rain". He referred to the
terrible weekend of weather
that greeted the visitors to our
village:
Visitors were present at the
service from many parts of
Ontario.
W.M.S. birthday party
The W.M.S. of Carmel
Presbyterian Church held
their annual birthday party
on Monday evening.
Mrs. Robert Bell presided
opening with a poem and the
singing of a hymn and a
welcome to all the guests and
members.
Mrs..Rochus Faber was in
charge of the devotional. The
Scripture was read by Mrs. Al
Hoggarth.
Mrs. Faber read a poem
and presented an interesting
topic on "What Will I Wear".
Rev. Wilena Brown of
Varna was the guest speaker
and was introduced by Mrs.
AI Hoggarth and thanked by
Mrs. Robert Bell.
Jane Pollock played the
guitar and sang. The ushers
were Eleanor Thompson,
Minnie Skea, Ruby Bell and
Kathy Bell. The Offering was
received by Ruby Bell and
Kathy Bell.
- Following the singing of a
hymn, grace was sung and
refreshments served in the
schoolroom. The decorated
tables were beautifully done
in keeping with the four
seasons.
Seniors week
This being the week of the
Seniors, the "Three Links"
seniors will be entertained on
Friday, June 25, at Huron -
view for dinner. Cars are to
meet at the local Hall at 12
noon. •
Riley reunion
The Riley reunion was held
in the park, at Hensall with
forty-five present.
Allan and Wade Riley were
in charge of the sports. Event
winners were:
Races: Jason Clarke, Lori
Harburn; Steve Harburn; two
relay r'lces, throwing balls in
a bushel basket and an orange
relay race, both were won by
Jason Clarke's team.

Tuckersmith
okay project
Tuckersmith Township
council will reconstruct about
a mile of road west from
Stryker's corner this sum-
mer,also about a mile and a
quarter of road 35-36.
Council approved con-
tributing to the study of a sink
hole on the farm of Reiny
VanLoon to decide how the
water can be redirected. The
Ministry of the Environment
will pay8o percent of the cost
and the township's share will
be 20 percent, amounting to
about $400.
Council passed a bylaw
regulating swimming pool
fencing in the Township and
one on property standards
concerning garbage which
has accumulated on some
properties in the township.
Council approved the pay-
ment of $2,251.90 which is
Tuckersmith's share to the
1981 operating deficit at the
Seaforth arena. This share is
based on the number of
residents from the township

A birthday cake with
candles was lit for Ross Riley.
It was decided to hold the
picnic next year, the second
Sunday in June, at the Hen-
sall park. Officers for next
year are, past president, Don.

ray Harburn; first vice presi-
dent , Laretta Riley;
treasurer, Doreen Harburn;
secretary, Nellie Riley;
Sports, Ross Riley and
family.
Rebekah's meet
Amber Rebekah Lodge
members met on Wednesday
evening for the last meeting
unitl September. Noble Grand
Bertha MacGregor conducted
the meeting, assisted by vice
grand Gladys Coleman, who
reported for the visiting
committee.

MacGregor who represented
the members at the Assembly
of Ontario sessions in Toron-
to, gave a few highlights of
the meetings.
It was decided to have a
pot -luck luncheon following
the September first meeting
when the lodge convenes for
the fall term.
Mrs. Lois Jones favoured
with a reading, following the
close of Lodge and
refreshments were served in
the lower hall by the social
committee.
Mrs. Ross MacMillan,
Waterloo visited last Thurs-
day with her mother Mrs.
Laird Mickle.
Mr. and Mrs. Les Adams of
Exeter and grandaughter
were recent visitors with Mr.
and Mrs. Jack .Corbett.
Mrs. Laird Mickle attended
the graduation dinner at Lon-
don last Thursay evening for
her grandson John Mickle,
son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Mickle Exeter, who
graduated from Fanshawe
College the same day.
Anniversary service
Rev. Ken Innes of Brussels
was guest minister at the an-
niversary service in Carmel
Presbyterian Church on Sun-
day. He spoke on the subject
"Keep the Faith" Mr. Bob
Heywood was guest soloist
and sang two numbers; ac-
companying himself on the
guitar. Mrs. Dorothy Taylor
presided at the organ and ac-
companied the choir in the
anthem.
Service will be withdrawn
on June 27, in order that the
members may attend the
Cromarty Anniversary. Rev.
Knight will be on holidays for
July. Services ,will resume
August first.
Unit two of Hensall United
Church held their June
meeting in the manse at the
invitation of their minister,
Rev. Stanley McDonald. Mrs.
Hazel Corbett chaired the
meeting and opened with a
reading, giving a different
thought for everyday of the
week.
Mrs. Sadie Hoy conducted
the devotions on the theme,
"This is my Father's World"
including two readings, tell-
ing about the revival of Chris-
tainity in China.
For the topic, Mrs. Grace
Drummond gave a short
piece on Stewardship- and
read anarticle on faith
She closed the meeting with
humorous article about a
iuoster and his shell.
Unit leader, Mrs. Joyce
Pepper, conducted the
business, including flowers in
the church for August.
The meeting closed with the
Mizpah Benediction and
Hazel conducted two contests
