Efficient use of
energy starts with
your water heater.
Wise use of
energy
starts with you.
An electric water heater will provide all the hot
water you need ... quickly and efficiently. It's up to
you to use it wisely.
• insulate long runs of hot water pipe
• taking a short shower usually uses less energy
than a bath, because less hot water is used
• a dripping tap or shower head can waste up to
175 gallons of water a month. A simple washer
replacement will stop this waste
• wait for a full load before running your clothes
washer or dishwasher
• set the washing machine to cold water whenever
hot water is not essential. Rinse with cold water
Ask about our all -electric water heater rental plan.

Letters on Heritage Day events, boy's heroism
Dear Editor:
Have had many of your
readers inquiring about the
progress of the "Exeter
Heritage Days" weekend for
July 16, 17, 18. The agenda is
falling into place quite nicely.
The Committees are working
very hard to make this a suc-
cess and are hoping that the
townspeople and area are
behind them and will turn out
for the big event.
We know it sounds like a
very expensive weekend to at-
tend all the functions, but
there are enough activities
and functions going on for the
three days that you are -able
to pick and chosse the ones
that you are most interested
in. The parade is looking like
a great success with bands,
floats, bed races etc. If you
have an entry call Don Haines
and let him know.
Entries to the Craft and An-
tique show are many so the
Arena. should be an in-
teresting place to spend a cou-
ple of hours. For those in-
terested in music and enter-
tainment the Friday night
CFPL. Talent show held at
the Public School is a must,
and for the Country and
Western fans BX93 is sponsor-
ing a program on the Sunday
afternoon from 1 to 5 at the
Rec Centre, bring your lawn
chair and relax as this will be
held outside if weather
permits.
Four hours of entertain-
ment for $1.25 food booths on
the grounds for the full
weekend.

Ontario Home Renewal
Program (OHRP) grants
totalling almost $570,700 for 14
municipalities have been an-
nounced by Municipal Affairs
and Housing Minister Claude
Bennett. A grant of $20,000 for
Lucan is included.
Administered by
municipalities, the program
assists homeowners to
upgrade their homes, with the
emphasis on faulty structural
and sanitary conditions, and
on `plumbing, insulation,`
heating and electrical
systems.
Loans of up to $7,500 are
made to eligible owner -
occupants who wish to bring
their homes up to standard. A
portion of a loan may be
forgiven, .depending on the
recipient's income. Interest
rates range from zero to eight
percent, again depending on
income.
For applicants, the max-
imum annual qualifying in-
come, after allowable deduc-
tions are made, is $15,500.
Bennett said that since
OHRP was launched in 1974,
more than $146 million in pro-
vincial funds have been given
Council offers
helpful advice
to dog counter
An enumeration is under-
way in Exeter,,but don't get
your hopes up...it is going to
result in an election where
you can voice your concern
over the economy going to the
dogs.
In fact, the enumeration is •
for dogs only.
Student employee Brenda
Pinder will be going door-to-
door to enumerate dogs in an
effort to ensure that all canine
owners are paying dog tag
fees.
The move stems from re-
cent complaints that many
dog owners do not buy tags
while others have been
assessed penalties for acquir-
ing theirs after the deadline.
Mayor Bruce Shaw said
there was no sense having a
bylaw if it wasn't going to be.
enforced and council had to
embark on a program to try
and do a good job of enforce-
ment or not to do anything
about dogs at all.
"Moral persuasion hasn't
worked," he said in reference
to the fact many owners dc
not purchase the required
tags.
Miss Pinder was given
some helpful advice by coun-
cil members prior to embark-
ing on her enumeration.
Tom Humphreys warned
her to be careful of dober-
mans and police dogs.
"My dad got me a can of
,dog repellent," Miss Pinder
replied.
Morley Hall suggested she
would need broad shoulders
to withstand the flack that
could be expected from some
dog owners, while Dorothy
Chapman encouraged her to
take notes, write a book and
sell it.

Dear Sir:
We received an interesting
letter from our daughter-in-
law (Mrs. Maybee from
Windsor). They had the same
storm that we had last
Wednesday.
Our grandson (Kurt
Maybee)` who is 13 and his
cousin who lives next door
heard this terrible crash
upstairs, ran up and fire was
coming out from the elec-
trical outlet.
Kurt had sense to run
downstairs and turn off the
main switch, grab the fire ex-
tinguisher and called the fire
department right away.
The lightning had hit a tree
travelled along the clothes
line to two other trees, tore all
the bark off, then travelled
back to the house. The fire
dept. arrived shortly after
and they told the boys they
were heroes. for having the
presence of mind to do what
they did.
It saved their home. We
thought this a very good arti-
cle for your paper and also
what a 13 year old did to save
their home.
Sincerely
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Douy
