Times-Advocate, 1982-06-16, Page 21Cruising club busy Grand Bead fdlsdsing Club was busy over the weekend, on Saturday conducting boat tours of Lake Buren and on Sunday sponsoring a fashion show at the Green Acres Club House. In cooperation with the Soutbeote Pines Park Association, the boat club had five power craft available for an hour-long cruise of Lake Huron. Twenty persons sign- ed up 'for the cruise Sunday the club sponsored a fashion show in the "round house", Green Acres. Fashions were from the Sun Shop, Grand Bend. Cruising Club members, including Commodore Bruce Peat were amthe models. Clot6insg ranged from swim wear to. workable classics. Bold red, white and blue separates were featured. Meg Daniels, London, former model and fashion coor- dinator was commentator. Mimic was arranged by Jeff Prance, London, and played by Tony Relouw, Grand Bend. Hair styles were done by Bill and Fran Parker, White Oaks Coiffure, London. Tracy Woods, London and Oakwood coordinated the show. Missing was Steve Mothers. r Times -Advocate, June 16, 1982 Page 9A Promises to be great weekend The posts went in on the main beach of Grand Bend Monday afternoon to support OKAY CIMITIRY Ambers of the new Pinery Cemetery Board met with Bosanquet, Stephen and Grand Bend councils Monday night to organize a by-law authorizing the board to pro- ceed. The meeting was in Grand Bend. Chairman Glen Miller showed a map of the new cemetery. It is located bet- ween Thedford and Grand Bend on the Alhambra road. It will hold over 3,000 burial sites and cost of plots ranges from 685 to $180. A tent to seat 400 and a food tent will be erected inside the fence. First event in the tent will be a business men's luncheon Friday at noon. Sauerkraut and sausages, burgers and beer will be available 4)r the whole weekend. A rock band Raising Kane will provide background music. Helicopter rides will be available from the beach north of the pier and the Labatt Balloon will be hovering. The popular bed races on Main Street will begin Satur- day morning at 10 and then there will be a log -sawing con- test at the soccer field behind the Legion Hall. The soccer field will also contain a junior olympics competition beginn- ing at 2 p.m. Saturday. There are about po entries for this event. Canoe races will be held beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sun- day. The boats will begin an eight -mile journey from the tri -county bridge at Green- way and end the race beside the south beach in the village. To conclude the program after lunch, Sunday, the an- nual beauty contest will be' held on the main beach with Jo Penny and her Toronto models in attendance Sewer group meets_ Grand Bend sewer liaison committee met Thursday night to decide on some of the left -overs of the sewer project. Plansare to pave River Road in a month and hook in- to pumps there in the next two weeks. Green Acres and Gibbs Park are slated for paving in the fall. Maintenance methods and payment were discussed with engineer, Bill Ewing and En- vironment advisor, Conrad Gelot. Gelot asked Reeve Bob Sharon what method of pay- ment had been planned. Sharen replied, "Stephen Township is holding money for payment and we can't really finalize method of pay- ment until that is resolved." It was suggested that pro- perty owners complete hook- ups before paving starts. "I'm pleased with the way things have gone so far," commented Sharen. Others on the committee are Bill Sturdevant, John Clarke, Stan Lovie, Jack Stanlake, Louise Clipperton.
