balloons to be released July 8
by Ailsa Craig's first Miss
Gala Days. And where those
balloons will end up is
anybody's guess.
People finding balloons con-
taining a free pass are asked
to turn them in at Gala Days
because there will be a prize
awarded the person who has
brought his pass the farthest
distance to Ailsa Craig.
At a committee .meeting
last week, a number of new
attractions for the Gala Days
weekend were firmed up by
committee members.
The Enchanters will per-
form on Saturday, July 17
from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. in the
turtle racing area. The En-
chanters is a little theatre
group which entertains
children 4 to 12-- and their
parents and friends ---by the
fantasy of making familiar
children's stories come alive.
A talent show will be held at
7:30 Saturday night, and Gala
Days chairman Ted
VanWeert said interest to
date has been so enthusiastic
that auditions will have to be
held to reduce the number of
acts to a manageable size. •
Auditions for juniors will be
at the Ailsa Craig Townhall
on Monday, June 28 at 7:30,

stitute on June 8 held in the
Lucan Community Centre.
Upcoming events at the
United Church are Commu-
nion June 20, andthe follow-
ing Sunday Carlisle and
Brinsley congregations are to
join with us 11 a.m. when our
Sunday School will receive
their certificates for yearly
attendance followed by a pot-
luck picnic ,goon meal with
races, games afterward.
The three units are urged to
plan for the bake sale at KOA
Camp (near Nairn) on July 3
at 10:30 a.m.
"Many hands make light
work", as the old saying goes,
proved true Friday morning
when a oar load of Parkhill
ladies brought their thimbles
and needles to assist the
U.C.W. quitters in the church
basement at a queen -sized
quilt.
Later in the afternoon the
quilling was being ac-
complished. A tasty noon
meal was enjoyed.
Mr. and Mrs. Percy
Dickens, Hamilton, Mr. and
Mrs. Glenn Dickens and Mrs.
Marjorie,Didcens, all of Lon-
don, visited recently with
Alice Dickens.
The Birr W.I. entertained
the Craigholme residents, With
auditions for seniors will be
held on Tuesday, June 29 at
7:30.

between 7:30 and 9 p.m, Sun-
day, July 18, and Van Weert
said a fish pond with prizes
for youngsters would be held
during the weekend.
Gala Days weekend will be
officially opened at 7:45 p.m.
Friday, July 16, and a
baseball game between CFPL
radio and the Ailsa Craig
Lionesses starts at 8:30.
The grand turtle auction
will be held Saturday at 7
p.m. in the turtle racing area
of the Ailsa Dome Stadium.

contestants for Miss Gala
Days here -
The committee also decid-
ed at its. meeting last week
that contestants for Miss Gala
Days -to be judged on Thurs-
day, July 8 -must be single,
between the ages of 16 and 25,
and live within a 25 kilometre
radius of the Ailsa Craig town
hall. (Instead of 250
kilometres as reported -
sorry).

attended anniversary ser-
vices at Zion, West on Sunday
and later spent the day with
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Jaques,
Steve and Susan.
The descendants of the late
Richard and Elizabeth Neil
held their 34th annual reunion
at the homeof Mr. and Mrs.
Maurice MacDonald, Lucan,
on Sunday.
The late Mr. and Mrs. Neil
farmed on the farm now own-
ed by the Squires family on
No. 4 Highway. They attend-
ed St. Patrick's Church Saint-
sbury where a family of nine
children were baptized. Mary
Kooy is a great grandaughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Hodgins visited with Mr. Ivan
Hodgins and his mother of
Greenway on their way . to
Terrance Bay where they
visited Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Files and family and new lit-
tle baby Cara born in April.
On their return they visited
Mr. and Mrs. Richard McCut-
cheon and boys at Sault 'Ste
Marie and Mr. and Mrs. Fred
McCutcheon at Ironbridge
where they attended their
45th wedding anniversary,
Fred's retirement and five
birthdays. being celebrated
together. •

were also present.
They visited old friends in
Wiarton including Mr. and
Mrs. W.J. Crawford and spent.
