Students in grades seven and eight studied settlement in Middlesex county and McGillivray township, Bid- dulph, Parkhill and Ailsa Craig, in particular. As a part of that unit students wrote poems, songs, essays, completed booklets and stitchery on Local topics of their choice. Students, 15in number, had their projects selected by staff members who forward- ed the entries to the Mid- dlesex County Board Office for the Middlesex competi- tion. Nine McGillivray students had their entries selected to be sent on to com- ,. pete against the London schools. The names of the nine students are listed below with the ranking which their entry received in the London and Middlesex History Fair. Awards were presented by 'Dan Brock at A.E., Duffield School on Tuesday, June 1. Winners from McGillivray were: Lyle Scarborough, song, first place; Darlene Daley, song, second place; Paul Dixon, essay, fourth place; Bonnie Lynn, poem, fifth place; Kim Amos, stit- chery, $5; Kim MacGregor, stitchery, 45; Laurie Rowe, stitchery, $5; Heather Hodgins, stitchery, fourth; Julie Wright, stitchery, fifth. May -30, the members of ' the small ensemble sang at the 116th anniversary service at Ailsa Craig United Church. The selections were Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring by J.S. Bach and Amazing Grace, and a French Ballad, Le Temp de Vivre. Small ensemble singers are: Carrie Ann Hartle, Julie Wright, Shawn Wright, Mar- sha Sutherland, Tracy Thompson, Meagan Henry, Robin. Rees, Lyle Scar- borough, Marjorie Feltz, Heather Cocksworth, Sylvia DeWeerd, Valerie Parkinson, Carrie Sutherland, Peter Pera, Matthew Heffernan, Tanya Neil and Kathy Rutherford. . Congratulations to these students and their leaders for much hard work and devotion to sharing their music with the community. Blind musician back by popular demand The annual meeting of the South Huron Association for the Mentally Handicapped will be held Thursday, June 17 at the South Huron Rec Cen- tre in Exeter. A roast beef and ham, family -style dinner will be served at 6:30 and then a brief annual meeting of the Association will follow. Executive Director of South Huron and District AMH, Don Campbell, will provide a brief update on the current service needs for developmentally handicapped children and adults in this area. Some new- ly proposed activities of the Association will be highlighted for the coming years. Following this brief presen- tation, will be a musical per- formance by George Jenner. He provided part of the enter- tainment at the annual meeting, one year ago, during the Association's special presentation for the Interna- tional Year of Disabled Per- sons and is back again by popular demand. Jenner earns his • living through his music business in the Cambridge and Kitchener areas. He is physically han- dicapped and blind, but his positive outlook and energies, combined with his musical talent, make him a profes- sional in every stretch of the word. , Tickets for the entire even- ing are priced at $6 per per- son- One of the main purposes of the evening is to provide in- formation to interested citizens in this community about services for the mental- ly and physically handicapped. A written annual report on the various of Committees and the Board _of Directors will be available to persons in attendance. This community has Shown, beyond doubt, a caring at- titude towards disabled in- dividuals. The strength of this Association has been enrich- ed by active volunteer and community support.
