Rec ball league now underway The Exeter men's rec fastball league season swung into action with a full slate of games. - Despite a slight conflict of interest Doug Johnson led the Derby Dip Shakers to an 11-0 drubbing over the Dashwood Hotel Jet Boys. In other games, the Chiefs edged Chislehurst .10-9, Osborne outlasted MacLean's 15-13, Hensall downed Gord's Variety 5-3, Mount Carmel ,,,-' In4 .•! EXETER EXETER MEN'S. Cowgirls win two The Crediton Cowgirls came away with two wins this week by defeating Lieury 28 to 11 and Lobo 19-5. Friday the Cowgirls didn't turn their bats on until the third inning when the margin started to increase rapidly. Leading the Cowgirls at the .. plate was Barb Mitchell with a home run, double ant two singles. Knocking out a home– run omerun was Teresa Van Raay who also added a single. Tam- my Regier came through,with her bat by hitting a single and two doubles. Joanne Scott, Deb Lord and Brenda Wilds added doubles and a single apiece and singles were ,hit, by Wilma Lagerwerf, Shelley Weber, Kate Steeper, Wendi Schwindt and Michelle Vandergunst. Leading Lieury at the plate were Mary Ann Govers, Bet- ty Dixon and Cindy Reese. Brenda Wilds was the win- ning pitcher for Crediton with four strikeouts. Mona Ritchie pitched for Lieury' • Monday night, after a late start because of lack of players on the opposing side the Cowgirls moved ahead with their first bat and stayed ahead for the final inning. The score remained fairly close until the sixth inning when the Cowgirls started playing hard. Leading the Cowgirls at the plate were Barb Mitchell and Deb Lord with a home run and a single each. Joanne Scott and Teresa Van Raay added two singles apiece. Adding hits to clinch the victory were Wilma Lagerwerf, Shelley Weber, Tammy Regier, Brenda Wilds, Kate Steeper and Wen - di Schwindt. Taking the win for the Cowgirls was pitcher Deb Lord with seven strikeouts. SEASON'S FIRST HOLE -IN -ONE — Bob Oesch sank a hole -in -one at the Bayview Golf Club May 2. Bob used a 3 wood on the 183 yard,par three, hole at the course. The club is just south of St. Joseph, about seven miles north of Grand Bend on the Bluewater highway. Centennials beat 'Bend' Sunday afternoon the Senior Centennials turned in an excellent team effort and managed a 3-2 win over Grand Bend. A game dominated by the Centennials from start to finish saw Exeter winger Shawn Rotteau head in a nice- ly placed ball from the other winger Terry Vandewalle. Minutes later an Exeter defender . unintentionally touched the ball with his hand in thepenaltyarearesulting in a penalty shot by Grand. Bend. Goalie Blair Burbidge had no chance on it. B fore the half ended 'centre half Alfonse Weersink put a nice low shot through the goalie's legs to put Exeter ahead 2-1. Alfonse again worked his way in front of -the net where again a nicelow shot eluded the goalie. A poor call by the referee gave Grand Bend another penalty shot in which they made no mistake on. Ex- eter pressed consistently con- trolling the whole game but couldn't put any more balls past the Grand Bend goalie. Exeter forwards hit numerous crossbars and goal poets but the score still ended in a 3-2 victory for Exeter. Next Sunday Exeter has the weekend off but will probably play an Exhibition game. The following Sunday the Centen- nials travel to Arkona to play the Taxandrian Falcons at 1:00 s .m.
