HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1982-05-19, Page 6Page 6 Times -Advocate, May 19, 1982 Some ways the same. Two weeks ago I thought about the ways in which peo- ple are different from each other. No one can deny that each human being is unique. During my research,. however, I discovered quotes and aneedotes that prove peo- ple share certain things. Many people have ideas and experiences in common. For instance, most people would agree and some have learned from experience that a dog's bark may be worse • than his bite but it never seems as personal. Most humans would agree that, although they never laid an egg, they know more about omelettes than any hen. Many people reason that it is best to speak well of their enemies because they're the ones who made them. • Every time a sheep bleats, it loses a mouthful of hay. Think about it. Many people will conclude that it's true. And most people will discover, if they haven't already, that humour is a wonderful companion to good sense. "Life is pot so short but that there is time enough for courtesy." Most people will agree with this French pro- verb, especially after they've been the recipient of- a courteous act from someone. Each time we do evil we put ourselves down just as much, but, when we do good to others, we do much good to ourselves, what we try to see in our fellowman, we do see - three truths of life. Odds 'n ends By Elaine Townshend Most people find smiling is contagious. Farmers know only what we nourish can grow. The same is true of relationships. For everyon>3, today is the tomorrow that yesterday was only a thought: Everyone discovers certain things in life. There may be obstacles in the way, and the road may be. rough and bad. Reach out with a will, deter- mined and strong, for things that you've never had. Remember, the day always follows the night, and the sun- shine follows the rain. Each cloud has silver lining, each loss is somebody's gain. Each hour we waste in a lifetime, we may wish we could recall. Condemn, as you will the golden years, they're sure to come to us all. A faith that's strong can see through them; with only a farthing of pain. But the hours we throw away dear ones - we never can regain. We would be equally wise to take heed to the following ad- vice: "Take time to think, it is the source of power; take time to play, it is the secret of perpetual youth; take time to laugh, it is the music of the soul; take time to love and be loved, it is a God-given privilege."
