in Sarnia Festival
The 53rd Annual Lambton
County Music Festival was
held last week in Sarnia. Five
of Diana Verlinde's accordion
student8 were there to par-
ticipate and performed well.
In the under 14 class Robert
Hoffman took first place with
a score of 83 and Joanne
Verlinde fourth with a score
of 78.
In the under 15 class Angela
Fleming placed third with a
score of 79 with Irene and
Debbie tying for fourth with a
mark of 76. In the under 16
class Robert Hoffman placed
second with 79.
In the duet division under 15
class Robert Hoffman and
• Joanne Verlinde placed se-
cond with a score of 81 and in
the same class Irene Dietrich
and Debbie Zielman placed
third with 79.
In the accordion ensemble
class under 17 the band, 4 plus
1 placed second with. a score
of 84 losing only by one mark
to a group from Sarnia. The
band consists of Angela Flem-
ing, Irene Dietrich, Robert
Hoffman, Debbie Zielman
and Joanne Verlinde. Con=
gratulation to the students
for a job well done.
May 16, there will be a
recital in Hegsall Public
School at 1:30 p.m. in Which
the above students and seven
other younger ac is
will be showing their t.
At this recital trophies will be
given out to the Winners of the
practice conte which has
lasted for the past twelve
weeks.
The Junior winners are first
place Dave Kelly wit second.

A farmer visited" his son's
college. Watching students
in a chemistry class, he was
told they were looking for a
universal solvent. ,
"What's that?" asked the
farmer.
"A liquid thatwill dissolve
anything," he was told.
"That's a ,great idea,"
agreed the farmer, "but
when you find it, what are
you going to keep it In?"
A ROCK WINNER — Lori Miller, a grade three student
at Usborne Central was a winner in the primary divi-
sion of the recent Science Fair at the school.

Staffa lady attends Institute conference

Jean Carey hosted the May
meeting of the Cromarty
Ladies Aid Tuesday evening.
Mrs: Carey presided opening
with a Mother's Day poem.
Betty Dow gave the devo-'
tions, taking her 'Scripture
from Psalms, and reading a
article on Tree Treasures,
closing with prayer.
Five members answered

age tbey were the happiest.
Mrs. Dow reported that seven
complete layettes had been
sent to the Unitarian Services
in Ottawa.
Mrs. Dow gave a timely
reading, Rock Picking Builds
Character, and Muriel Scott
read a item about Don and
Carol Langford, who had just
returned from thethird world
where they observed the
distribution of some 6,000
metric tons of corn.
Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Lostell,
RR 3 Kippen, celebrated their
45th wedding anniversary
May 1 and their family
honoured them with a family
dinner on Sunday at the home
of their daughter and n -in-
law, Mr. and Mrs. ayne
Pridham, Staffa.
The room was decorated
with blue and white bells and
on a lace covered table the
cake was also decorated in
blue and white, flanked by
blue candles. •

their family of four children;

(Phyllis) Parsons, Kippen;
Mr. and Mrs. Glen (Donelda)
Sturgeon, Bayfield; Mr. and
Mrs. Wayne (Susanne)

David and Jane Sturgeon,
Bayfield, Jim and Mary Jane

They received manylovely
gifts and good wishes. The
families gift was a set of liv-
ing room lamps and the
grandchildren presented
them with a 45th anniversary
cake plate.
Mr. and Mrs. John
Templeman were guests
Saturday at the Gamble -
Ruddock wedding in the
Presbyterian Church at Hun.
tingdon, Quebec, and spent a
few days visiting with Mr.
and Mrs. Jim Greer and fami-
ly, Ormstown, Quebec, and
Rev. and Mrs. Jackson, Win-
chester, Ontario.
Mrs. Carter Kerslake was a
delegate to the Women's In-
stitutes Officers Conference.

Robert McCaughey is home
again after being hospitalized
in Seaforth Community
Hospital.
Mrs. John Drake attended
a bridal shower for Miss Lois
Elliott in Zurich on Saturday.

were Sunday dinner guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Hap Swatridge
and Jill, Wingham.
Mrs. Margaret Howard and
girls, London spent the
weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
John Drake and Murray.

Hugh Norris is home from the
hospital.
Good crowd for
springflower. show
The Kirkton Horticulture
Society held their spring
meeting May 4 in the
Kirkton-Woodham Com-
munity Centre. A good crowd
enjoyed an interesting
program.
Miss Jean Copeland
welcomed alt present. She
read a poem titled The White
Trillium. Mrs. Earl Stephen
favoured the audience with 2
piano instrumentals.
District President Mrs.
Mary " Yeoman 'from
Woodstock brought words of
greetings.
Mrs. Ellis Strahan in-
troduced William Girling
from London who is in-
terested in nature study and
photography. He .talked
about wild flowers and
showed pictures of them in
their natural habitat. Miss
Jean Copeland thanked him.
There were several door
prizes of flowers drawn for.
A sing song was enjoyed with
Mrs. Philip Johns at the
piano.
The bus trip to the Whitby
area was announced and also
that there are plans for a bus
trip in August to Caledonia.
This will be advertised in the
local papers. Mrs: Garth
Blackler sang two lovely
solos accompanied by Mrs.
Clayton Ross.
