the Lions Club May 3, at thei
regular meeting, comment
ing with a delicious roast bee
dinner catered to by the
Arena Catering Service.
Following the dinner, all
present introduced
themselves and Lion presi-
dent Jack Ryan conducted the
business meeting. He an-
nounced that $5,000 was
donated to the Arena Associa-
tion with paving the parking
areas. 81,000 went to the
Leader Dog School at
Rochester, Michigan, and
$3.000 had been returned to
the' Lions from the skating
club. This, in turn, will be
allocated to house league
hockey.
Lion Jack pointed out to
guests that Scouts and
Brownies had received
grants, that a machine had
been purchased for assisting
in getting people out of wry
ed cars and a blood pressure
and pulse monitor machine
fpr the Lucan Ambulance
Service. •
' The Lions Club float will be
"refurbished" and entered in
the Lions Club Parade in
Toronto, particularly to
publicize the I.P.M. The
parade will appear on na-
tional television.

had helped to raise over
$4,100.
Mildred Hirtzel, president
of the Sunshine group, thank-
ed the Lions on behalf of all
the seniors present, for the
pipe "evening out" and most
of those present stayed for
euchre.
Shaw complimented the
village on providing a wide
number of sports activities to
accommodate young people
and keep them busy. Coun-
cIllor Larry Hotson replied.
Shaw said he pow has a
force of 16 men and was re -ar-
ranging shifts to get the best
use of his officers. He added,
"We now have five or six of-
fiSers on night duty,
Thursdays, Fridays and
Saturdays and they work un-
til 1 a.m. weekdays and 3 a.m.
on weekends.
Sergeant Shaw talked brief-
ly about the upcoming Inter-
national Plowing Match to be
held in and adjacent to Lucan
from September 28 to October
2.
He said 60 OPP constables
would be sent in for thefive
day period as 20,000 vehicles
and 50,000 presons are ex-
pected each day. He con-
tinued, "Traffic control will
be a big job and accidents will
increase. Most will be, just
fender benders."
Council received a letter
from Canadian National
Railways noting that the line
through Lucan would be kept
open for at least the next two
years.
Corerspondence from the
- Middlesex hind division com-
mittee revealed that on an ap-
plication for severance from
Frank Van Geel consent was
not given.
The special annual garbage
pickup in the village will be
held this week beginning
Wednesday, May 12 and con-
cluding Friday, May 14.
