People really
People come in different
sizes and colours and speak
different languages. They
come from a variety of
backgrounds and live dif-
fering lifestyles.
Although they share
certain qualities,
weaknesses and traits, each
person is unique. Among the
most interesting differences
are ideas, beliefs and per-
sonalities.
Some people act as ner-
vous as a mailman at a dog
show. Others seem un-
flappable, but in reality,
they're behaving like ducks -
calm and unruffled on the
surface while paddling like
the dickens underneath.
Some people always seem
to be on their way to a fire.
Some run like race horses
when they ought to move like
tortoises, and vice versa.
Some people are
pessimists always expecting
the worst; others are op-
timists always looking for
the best, while
procrastinators just can't
decide.
Some people are wish
bones - wishing someone else
would do the work. There are
jaw bones - talking about
what should be done but
never doing it themselves.
Still others are knuckle
bones - knocking what
everyone else is doing and
are different
travelling light through life.
They long to live like an east
coast fog, coming and going
at will.
Others keep their nose to
Odds 'n ends
By Elaine Townshend

doing nothing themselves.
And some people are back
bones - getting under the
load and carrying it.
Some people read the
obituaries every morning
and wonder how people die in
alpabetical order.
Some people get lost in
thought because it is in -
familiar territory to them.
Some people are like the
little boy sitting dreamily at
his desk. His teacher asked,
"Do you have trouble
hearing?"
"No, ma'am," he an-
swered. "I have trouble
listening."
Some people believe in
MR. AND MRS. PAUL SHAPTON
Cindy Lee Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Brown,
RR 1 Doshwood and Paul Wilfrid Shapton, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Winston Shapton, RR 1 Exeter were united in
marriage at St. John's By -The -Lake Anglican Church,
Grand Bend on April 17, with Rev. J.W. Sutton of-
ficiating. The bridal attendants included maid of honour,
Jullie Brown, sister of the bride, and bridesmaids Janet
Brown, sister-in-law of the bride and Patti Shapton,
sister of the groom. The best man was Larry Shapton,
brother of the groom. James Gregus and John Van
Gerwen, friends of the groom, ushered the guests. Two
nephews of the bride, Chad and Wesley Brown were
ringbearers. Music was provided by guitarists Janine
Masse and Julie Debus. After a wedding trip to Hawaii
the couple will be residing in Chatham.

the grindstone never looking
to the left or the right nor
taking thg time to enjoy the
simple pleasures of life.
A lucky few find that road
down the middle.
Some people meet a
challenge head-on, regar-
dless of the consequences.
Others use the method
described by Bierce in The
Devil's Dictionary: "One
who is in a perilous
1 m gency thinks with his
gs."
Some people work toward
one thing, expecting
something else and finding
only futility. Others set a
goal and never stop trying
until they reach it.
Some people insist on
directing events, while
others let events direct
themselves.
People are different, and
it's lucky for us that they
are. Life would certainly be
boring if everyone was the
same.
Flicker to a flame
is Institute's theme
"From a Flicker to a
Flame" is the theme for this
the 85th Anniversary of the
Women's Institute depicting
the growth and
achievements of the
organization with a modest

million members around the
world. The highlight will be
the Celebration in Toronto
August 12th when 1200
delegates from Ontario will
hear the World President,
Mrs. Ziny Westebring-
Muller of the Netherlands.
Mrs. Janet Hiepleh, the
president presided at the
semi-annual meeting of the
Federated Women's
Institute of Ontario, where

Convention in Federation in
June; projects were
promoted; resolutions dealt
with and reports heard.

Pensions and Bill C53. A
brief has been prepared
regarding the latter.

afternoon, being the first
event in this the 10th
Anniversary of the owner-
ship by the Federated
Women's Institute of
Ontario. Visitors may visit
this beautiful Home with lis
beautiful artifacts from 10
a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday
to Friday.
Despite all the plans for
1982 it is necessary for many
to think of the World Con-
ference coming to B.C. in
June 1983. Plans are being
made for Pre and Post
Conference Tours of our
Country and a warm
welcome to our overseas
visitors. Special events at
the Conference Include an

At present there are nine
