Exeter council members
had a first-hand view, Mon-
day, at the novel approach
two Ontario municipalities
are taking to get their
message across to prospec-
tive industries.
Goderich and Brantford
both have video tape produc-
tions to promote their com-
munities for industrial growth
and portions of those presen-
tations were shown by the

ed that instructors Kevin
Short and Dee Beuerman be
given some money to buy •
equipment for the course as
council's way of ,saying
thanks for the two having
given of their time to teach
council members.
It was left with Hall to see
what equipment may be need-
ed to assist in the program.
Other members of council
indicated an interest in taking
the course as well.
Council also agreed with a
suggestion of Mrs. Chapman
that a letter of thanks be sent
to the local Boy Scouts who
planted 270 trees at the local
dump site in Hay Township on
Saturday.
promotion
firm which produced them.
Jeff Seddon, one of the prin-
cipals in Gibson & Shaw
Visual Productions Ltd.,
Goderich, said both com-
munities were happy with the
video tape promotions and he
reminded council that a pic-
ture is worth a thousand
words.
He said the cost of the pro-
ductions worked out to about
*600 per finished minute and
in the case of Goderich, the
cost had been around $10;000
although this included about
12,500 worth of equipment
they purchased to show the
material.
Seddon said the promotions
could be translated into
foreign languages at a cost of
about *500 per language. Ad-
ditional tapes made from the
originals cost about $40.
He explained that the
government will provide
facilities for showing the '
tapes at major trade shows.
Members of council ap-
peared impressed with the
presentations and the matter
was turned over to Bill
Mickle, chairman of the local
industrial and tourism pro-
motion committee for . their
consideration.

Three thefts investigated.
Two house thefts and
another, involving a garden
tractor from a local imple-
ment dealer are under in-
vestigation by Exeter police.
A 17 -year-old youth has
been charged with the entry
into two homes last week. One
breakin occurred at the
residence of Warren May, 243
Andrew St., and the other at
the home of Norma
Cavanagh, Kalisch Ave.
Money was reported stolen
in both instances.
Constables Sadler and
Short.were in charge of the in-
vestigation and the youth is
scheduled to appear at an Ex-
eter courtlater this month.
Police advise residents to
lock house doors if they are
out in the yard doing spring
work.
• The garden tractor, valued
at $2,000, was taken from
Sherwood (Exeter) Ltd. Con-
stable Barnes is in charge of
that investigation.
The police department note
that bike licences are now on
sale at the police office. A
town bylaw dictates that'all
owners require a licence.
Want bridges retained
All avenues are now being
explored to retain two Huron
County bridges as historical
sites.
At Huron County council's
April 29 meting, the road
committee reported efforts
are being made to determine
the historical value of both the
Ball's Bridge and Forrester's
Bridge.
Ball's Bridge, located on
County Road 15 is considered
to be the only one of its kind
in Ontario, having wrought
iron in its structure, while
Forrester Bridge on County
Road 31 is considered to be of
a more common type, but it is
an old bridge.
The countyhad received a
letter from Goderich asking
for consideration of retaining
the bridges as historical sites.
"I fail to see the sense in
asking the government for
money (to restore the bridge)
when the government fails to
come up with the money
needed to maintain the cur-
rent road system," said
Stanley Township Reeve Paul
Steckle.
Hay TownshipReeve Lloyd
Mousseau agreed he doesn't
know how the money to retain
the bridges is to be obtained.
In other road committee
business, council approved
the following tenders,
Towland Construction for a
total price of *307,260 for hot
mix paving on Huron County
11; Levis Contracting
Limited, Clinton for hot mix
resurfacing on county road 13,
at a price of *307,719; George
Radford Construction
Limited, Blyth for a supply of
granular A gra vel at a price of
*18,425.

some method to streamline
applications so people don't
have to spend the money.
"The fees are getting heavy
for some small projects,"
Shaw noted.
In the past, several
members have urged that
steps be taken to reduce the
cost and the amount of red
tape people have to go
through to get approval for
projects, some of which are so
small they are actually less
costly than the fees charged
for getting approval for them.
Members of council concur-
red with Shaw's suggestion
this week that the matter be
considered as soon as
possible.
