Henwll United Church Iater symbols presented at Moundy s,rvIs Threes -Advocate, Apra 14, 11122 /els 12 A vary impressive service for Maunday Thursday was presented at the United Church when Mr. McDonald arranged tis service on the theme of Christ's Passion concluding with the service of Holy Communion. During the service, symbols of Christ's Passion were presented by members of the Session: thirty pieces of silver by Harry Stuart; ll'il�e Chalice by Sadie Hoy; A Glenn Slade; A • Sword by Doug Cook; A Pitcher of Water by Lloy Ferguson; The Cross by Florence Slade; The Bread by Chuck Doxtator and Steven McGregor; The Wine by Barbara Gackstetter and Cecil Special music was presented by the choir under the direction of Dr. Topp, along with scripture read by the alinister, told the story of Christ's Passion. Anthems presented by the choir were "a . Lenten Meditation" by Wagner;,"O Sacred Head Now Wounded" by Bach; "Come, Sweet Death" by Bach; and "Were You There" by Hughs. Hilda Payne was the greeter for the service and the ushers were David Brock, Lorne Gackstetter, George Parker and Harold Parsons. An excellent attendance were up bright and early Sunday morning for the 6:30 Sunrise Service at the United Church. The service opened with the glad Alleluia's, Christ is Risen and a very beautiful- Introit that spoke of The Risen Christ. The service was conducted by Mr. McDonald with Randy Parker reading a reading by Raymond Linguist on "What Does Easter Mean to Me." Scott Jesney and Glenn Slade read scripture from Mark and Luke. Carol Stuart was soloist singing the very beautiful "Morning Has Broken" and the arousing "Up from The Grave He Arose." Joyce Pepper was the pianist and led the worship in praise for the service. Mr. McDonald spoke on the subject of 'The Sunset and The Sunrise". A good meeting and lunch was enjoyed by all. Mrs. Ruby Bell was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ulch and family at Russeldale Easter Sunday. Mrs. Pearl Shaddick who spent the winter months in Mrs. Taylor opened the meeting with a poem of Spring and gave an Easter message followed by "The Dawning of Easter". Mrs. Jean Snell was in charge of the devotional reading a message "Easter Garden of the Heart" followed by prayer. Several passages of scripture were read by Mrs. Kathy Bell, Mrs. Bertha MacGregor, Mrs. Mattie McGregor and Mrs. Gloria Mousseau. Mrs. Snell gave an interesting message "What Does Easter Mean to You?" followed by prayer. Mrs. Florence Hyde read a passage of Luke's gospel. Mrs. Snell gave a reading pretaining to "Jesus' Death on the Cross and the ". Resurrection" and closed with prayer. Mrs. Taylor presided for the business which followed. Mrs. Faber gave a report of the annual meeting she attended. A card of thanks was read from Mrs. Jean Keller. The Synodical will be held April 21 at Burlington. The birthday party will be held in June. Mrs. Taylor closed with an Easter prayer. Mrs. Margaret Hoggarth presided for the Ladies' Aid meeting and opened with a reading "What to Give Up for Lent" and prayer. Mrs. Hyde gave the Treasurer's report. Following the business Mrs. Hoggarth gave a reading "Beatitudes for Housekeeping" and closed with prayer. Banquet, official visit as lodge celebrates 33rd year. Amber Rebekah i.odge members celebrated their 33rd anniversary on Wed- nesday when D.D.P. Mrs. Grace Fuller of District 23 made her official visit. Several members from Goderich accompanied her and all enjoyed a delicious banquet at the Presbyterian Church. The meeting at the lodge hall was well attended with Noble Grand Bertha MacGregor presiding, assisted by the Vice Grand Gladys Coleman. Guests were welcomed and Jr. P.N.G. Hazel Corbett presented D.D.P. Grace Fuller to the lodge. A carload of Past Grands plan to attend the District meeting in Goderich on April Florida returned to her home 14. last week. Sharon Morenz and June Anderson of London were guests on Good Friday with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett. Grace Fuller gave a brief address to the members and closed with a poem "Do Our Best as we go Our Way" Noble Grand Bessie Beech of Goderich Lodge congratulated Amber on their anniversary. AIR The South Huron April Youth for Christ Rally was held at Brucefield Cen- tennial School, April 3. This was in the form of a fun time. Various games were played. Irvin Steinman and Robin Little were In charge. Asing song followed led by David Rundle accompanied' by oCarolyn Perry at the ono. Bob Heywood was the guest speaker in charge of the devotional giving his testimony of his salvation. Ulrich was served. On May 1, the rally will be a talent night from various chtrches in the area with a special speaker. Study Jphn Foster Unit 3 of the U.C.W. of Hensall United Church met on April 6 for their meeting with Mrs. Dorothy Brintnell presiding. Following the theme song and prayer, Mrs. Brintnell gave a poem "Easter Greetings". Mrs. Pearl Taylor had the wor- ship entitled "Easter Thoughts". Mrs. Earl Kinsman had the program giving each lady an Easter card and they in turn read the message on the card. Mrs. Ross Riley used an item on Zaire for the World Outreach. Mrs. Harold Parsons had the study on John Foster "The Radical Prophet". You're lucky just to get them within waving distance of each other. • • Travis Beaver of the Junior High Gr Following the service breakfast was served to over one hundred people In the Fellowship Hall, prepared and served by the worship committee of the Official Bard. • A large attendance was on hand for the eleven o'clock Family Easter Service at the United Church when Mr. McDonald spoke on the subject of "The Power, Victory and Hope of Easter." He closed the sermon with the hope that the power, victory and hope of Easter might be ex- perienced by all worshippers on Easter Sunday and they might return to their homes and community, as those who witnessed the first Easter, never to be the same again. Special music was presented by the choir. During the service a very meaningful affirmation was read by the Minister and congregation on the power, victory and hope of Easter. Starr Jesney greeted the worshippersand Brian Beer, John McAllister, Ron Riley and Jeff Corbett were the ushers. The very beautiful flowers in the sanctuary were placed in loving memory of Mrs. Harry Horton, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Fee and Ray Ingram. All the window flowers were arranged by Irene Davis which included daffodils centered with a White Crass. Next Sunday will the service of Holy Baptism with the confirmation service to be held on Sunday, April 25. The Junior Religion and Life Classes for the United Church started last Monday Birthday open house The open house for Tressa Fletcher's birthday arranged by the family was a happy occasion held at the fellowship hall in Hensall United Church on Saturday. The setting was beautiful with spring flowers and was well attended by family and friends. Those attending were from Toronto, Kitchener, Guleph, Fergus, Drayton, Moorefield Palmerston, Harriston, Pte. Clarke, London. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fink, London were in charge of arrangements. Michael Hoy, London brought greetings from the grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, and reminisced about holidays at Grandma's. Bev Hovious, a neigh- bour, played her guitar and sang. Rev. Stanley McDonald congratulated Mrs. Fletcher on her bir- thday and welcomed all who attended. Lorena Fink and Alyson and will continue until May required course and at- io. Your King has Risen." The junior choir sang two numbers as did the senior choir under the direction of Mrs. Dorothy Taylor at the organ. On April 25 the choir are presenting a special service when Mrs. Garry Struyf (nee Sylvia Bell) will be guest. This service will be at 11:30 a.m. The Board of Management and the Kirk Session will meet on Thursday, April 15 at 8 p.m. in the church.
