DEAR CUSTOMERS:
We would like to explain a rumour
that has been passed around. It is
about the Health Inspector coming
in to close the restaurant for a day
because of "re -frying" food. This is
not so. We did close one week for
Christmas holidays. We have heard
this rumour fromdifferent people.
We would like to say that the per-
son who started this rumour is very
careless, and 99% of the customers
take their leftover food home in a
doggie bag, which leaves nothing
left.
Sincerely,
The Golden City Staff

For once I was in on the
ground floor of a new fashion
trend. Am I talking about
khaki culottes or sailor
blouses with satin knickers?
No, I'm talking about an
even bigger fashion show
stopper - the sweat suit.
You see, you can tell that I
was right in on the beginning
of the sweat suit fad. My
sweat (or jogging suit, if you
prefer) is basic sweat suit
grey. The basic grey, fleece
lined cotton knit sweat suit
paved the way for all the
attractive colours and styles
that followed. The basic grey
was found in a pair of very
baggy pants with elastic
cuffs and a draw string
waist. The top is usually a
pull over, with a kangeroo
pocket in the front, and a
hood, also operated with a
drawstring.
Today, sweat suits can be
found in every colour of the
rainbow, including pastel
pink or peacock blue.
Fabrics have moved away
from the basic fleece to
luxurious velour. But I still
maintain that the basic grey
is the classic sweat suit, and
one can never go wrong with
a classic.
The sweat suit has become
the official after -work uni-
form- around our house.
There was a day when I
would come home from work
to discard dresses and panty
hose in favour of blue jeans.
But these days blue jeans
have been pushed aside for
the sweat suit.
Now, they may not teach it
in home economics classes,
nor will you find this advice
in the pages of a helpful hints
book for young brides - but
the sweat suit is the greatest
thing in the world to wear
while you're doing
housework. You can move
freely while pushing your
vacuum about the house, and
you don't have to worry'
about splitting seams when
you struggle to reach
something in the bottom of
the freezer.
Unfortunately there is one
problem I discovered while
wearing a sweat salt around
the house. But if I pass the
story of my misfortune along
. to you, you can guard
against this problem. Let's
call it the sweat suit cooking
hazard.
I was dressed in my sweat
suit recently, while
preparing dinner. On the
stove was a pot of gravy I
was mixing up for some hot
beef sandwiches. I was.
stirring the gravy keeping a
close eye on it while it
thickened. Suddenly I
smelled something burning.
That's ridiculous, I thought.
How can it be burning while
I'm standing here stirring it
and I know it's not sticking to
the bottom of the pan. And I
stirred a little faster.
But the burning smell
grew stronger and I began to
get worried. I turned down
the heat on the burner and
stirred the gravy rapidly.
When the burning_ smell
persisted, I lifted the pot off
the stove. It was then I
realized that it wasn't the
dinner scorching, it was the
little plastic tip on the end of
the drawstring of my sweat
suit hood burning: I hadn't
realized that the string had
become wedged between the
pot and the burner.

Mary's
musings
By Mary Alderson
But other than this minor
catastrophe, I had the found
the sweat suit to be ideal
apparal for around the
house.
Wearing the sweat suit
around the house can be
beneficial in other ways. If a
salesman is becoming a
nuisance at the door you can
say you were just on your
way out for a run and invite
him to jog along. Or in my
case, I announce that I am
just about to leave for
dancefit classes.
Last fall we found another
use for our sweat suits. At
the last minute on Halloween
night, we decided that we
wanted to go visiting friends.
But because of the late hour,
we didn't have any costumes.
prepared. No problem.
My husband and I just put
on our matching his 'n hers
sweat suits, wore rubber
masks, and pulled the hoods
on tight with the draw
strings. After completing our
outfits with sweat socks and
sneakers, we jogged through
our friends' homes, never
giving away our identity.
Interest
rate down
Agriculture Minister
Eugene Whelan has an-
nounced a decrease in the in-
terest rates charged. by
Farm Credit Corporation
Canada.
"The new rate on loans
made under the Farm Credit
Act will be 161,2 percent as of
April 1st. That represents a
decline of one-quarter of a
percentage point from the
rate set last October,"
Whelan said.
FCC interest rates, which
are reviewed twice a year, in
April and October, are bas-
ed on the average of the
previous six.months' yield of
government bonds.
Whelan, went on to say,
"Although it is not a large
decrease, I'm sure it will be
appreciatedby those
farmers who receive FCC
loans in the next six
months."
In addition to the announc-
ed decrease in interest rates
for loans under the Farm
Credit Act, interest rates for
Farm Syndicates Credit Act
loans will be reduced to 161,2
percent from 171,2 percent.
