At 'Tuesday's annual ban-
quet et the Kirkton-Woodham
Winter Carnival, members ed a profit of 14,300.
learned the 1882 event show- Treasurer Al Eveleigh
reported a bank balance of
17,219. . Later in the pro-
gram, donations totalling
12,400 were made to four
organizations.
Incoming president Mervyn
Shutepresented a cheque for
11,500 to Dave Hern for the
Kirkton-Woodham swimming
pool and Kirkton Fair presi-
dent Christine Eveleigh ac-
cepted a cheque of 1500 from
vice-president Ken Blackler.
The other donations were
*200 each and went to the Girl
Guide grogps and the Kirkton
Komets, a baton twirling
group.
The executive for the 1983
carnival is president Mervyn
Shute, vice-presidents Ken
Blackler and Bert Bickell,
secretary Murray Insley and
treasurer George Levy.
The guest speaker was St.
Marys lawyer Bob Stephens
who called on the audience to,
"Stand up and be counted."
He continued, "With our
slumping economy it's time to
give instead of take. Let's
make moral decisions even if

Stephens lashed out at

"We should defend human

been a great misuse of these
liberties especially in por-
nography for young people",
said the St. Marys lawyer.
Stephens praised the car-
nival committee for their
outstanding contributions to
the community. He added,
"One cannot live in the area
without being aware of the
presi-
