He was on his way to performing a concert in Canton, Ohio. And froth March 25 to trail 3 Hank Williams: The w He Never Gave, produced by Theatre Passe Muraille, will be appearing at the Blyth Centre of the Arts. Hank Williams was far more than just a country songwriter. He was a legend in his own lifetime, and left a legacy that other musicians can only hope to attain. For we are talking about a performer who is one of the most recorded artists of the 20th century. A man, who, dead these 29 years, still has letters sent to him. We are speaking of a man who took country music out of Nash- ville and made it appeal to anyone who loves music, no matter what their age, in- come or background. Just one year after his death, this man was named the most popular Country and Western singer of all time. Hank Williams' original version of 'Jambalaya' reached number one on the charts in Western Europe.in 1976, 23 years after. his death! Country music fans 'are already familiar with Hank Williams' music. But anyone who is interested in music will be aware of such great songs as `Jambalaya', 'Kew - lige', 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry', 'Your Cheatin' Heart',. 'I Saw The Light', 'Hey, Good Lookin' and countless other songs written by Hank Williams. As a matter of fact, music lovers are probably more familiar with someone else's version of a Hank Williams' .song, for he influenced many major artists. Hank Williams was a shooting star in the game of life. In just three years he went from a nobody to a living legend. People have said that he died of too much living, too much sorrow, too much love, too much booze and too much success.' One thing is for certain. This man, from a small -town in Alabama, - couldn't handle the huge changes in his life. But he left a part -of himself in his songs which Mune ensure his immortality. And he became a hero'to millions. But it was more than his • ti11ngs. His concerts were a magical experience. Williams expressed his personal feelings and pain in • BOY'S FLOOR HOCKEY — Intramural floor hockey winners at Zurich Public School were the team of: (from left) Brent O'Brien, Mark Erb, Jon Hendrick, Ar- ron Bullock and Richard Tickner, Michael Gooclliffe is not shown.
